Jennifer Benton

Biography

Jennifer Benton is a Champlain College alumni from the graduating Class of 2020. She returned to Champlain College as the InSight Program Coordinator in 2022 after earning an M.S. in Leadership and Organizational Communication from Northeastern University in 2022. In addition to working as a Marketing Project Manager for a local company, Jennifer is responsible for grading InSight program submissions and scheduling a portion of InSight communications throughout the academic year. In her time at Champlain College, Jennifer worked as a Personal Finance Peer Coach under the InSight Program and is thrilled to be working with her old team again as a member of professional staff.

Robin Bissett is a writer, editor, and teacher based in Burlington. She earned her MFA in Fiction from the University of Montana.

Julia Blanding

Biography

Julia comes to Champlain with an undergraduate degree in Psychology and a minor in music as well as a Master’s degree in Clinical Mental Health Counseling. Julia spent six years working in community mental health organizations such as Lund, NFI, Pathways, Spectrum, and HOPEworks. She also has three years experience working in the local live music scene and volunteers with GrooveSafe, a non-profit that educates concert-goers about consent and bystander intervention at shows.

She brings an intersectional feminist framework to Champlain’s Women’s & Gender Center which recognizes how multiple forms of discrimination can overlap and affect people’s lives. She aims to connect students to the local community, in particular the music, art, and activism scenes.

Outside of work, Julia loves knitting, skiing, camping, canoeing, yoga, and live music. Her pride and joy is Bunker, her snuggly Basset Hound mix. Julia hopes to combine her passion for intersectional feminism and activism with her creative and outdoorsy hobbies to help students ignite their passions and hobbies.

Pat Boera

Biography

A former New Yorker who adopted Vermont as “home,” Pat Boera is an enthusiastic member of the Champlain College Career Collaborative team.

As a University of Vermont graduate who majored in Marketing, Pat uses her expertise every day to help students and alumni market themselves to prospective employers. She worked in the Hospitality Industry out of college, spending time on the management team of two of Vermont’s leading properties—The Tyler Place Family Resort and the historic Middlebury Inn. With this background, she strives to provide five-star service to the varied constituents who are her “customers”—students, alumni, colleagues, employers, and community members. Pat was honored by her Champlain College colleagues with selection as the first recipient of the Elizabeth Durick Staff Service Award.

Pat works hard and plays hard. When she’s not working at her office in the Garden House, popping into classes to present workshops, assisting with InSight initiatives, planning a Career Ed*Venture or Signature Event, or helping facilitate the Annual Elevator Pitch Competition, you are likely to find Pat dedicating time to favorite community activities in Burlington and Middlebury. She has been a volunteer with Lyric Theatre Company since college days, working in nearly every behind-the-scenes aspect of productions. She was a longtime House Captain at the Flynn Center for the Performing Arts; is a trained Audio-Describer who helps blind and visually-impaired audience members “see” performances; and helped found the award-winning Middlebury Summer Festival on-the-Green.

Pat has been recognized for service with two special awards—The Middlebury College Citizens Medal and as a United Way Hometown Heroes Nominee—and she hopes that this involvement makes her a good role model for Champlain College students and alumni. Pat can’t go a day without reading. She also dabbles in artisan crafts, specifically calligraphy and silk-screening and loves to be in the audience at live theater performances every chance she gets.

Bruce Bovat

Biography

Bruce Bovat began his role as Director of Champlain College Campus Public Safety in 2016. Prior to coming to Champlain, he led a 20-year career with the Burlington Police Department, holding a number of roles including Deputy Chief of Police and Director of the Chittenden Unit for Special Investigations. After his retirement from the City of Burlington, he spent 5 years as a Leadership Consultant for the International Association of Chiefs of Police. He also served 20 years in the Army National Guard before retiring in 2009.

David Boyle

Biography

Born in Philadelphia (Go Eagles!) and raised in Vermont. Joined the Vermont Army National Guard at 18 and which became a career. Deployed twice in support of the Global War on Terrorism with one in Kuwait and one in Afghanistan. Retired from the military after more that 26 years in service (23 of them on Active Duty). Currently assigned as a clinician at the college’s counseling center.

Holds two Masters Degrees, one in Administration and one in Clinical Psychology, both from St. Michael’s College. Worked in the mental health field for over 13 years. First clinical experience in the field was working in a Combat Stress Control Clinic in Afghanistan treating service members with mental health issues. Other relevant clinical experience is in both community mental health (in crisis and drug addiction issues) and in private practice.

Christina Brooker

Biography

Christina joined Champlain College in 2017, and currently serves as the Director of the Conference & Event Center. In this role she leads a team with two primary areas of focus: supporting internal campus events and facilities, and welcoming the numerous guests that the Conference & Event Center is pleased to host on campus. Christina believes in building authentic and lasting relationships with the many repeat customers she works with through personable and efficient communication, an intimate knowledge of the campus she serves, and a solid dose of humor along the way.

Previously, Christina worked in the non-profit arts sector for 10 years including many years engaging with classical musicians in orchestra management. In various roles her work involved fundraising, community-building, and special events. She holds a B.S. in Music Industry with minors in both Business and Women’s Studies from The College of Saint Rose, and an M.B.A. from Champlain College.

A native Vermonter, Christina currently lives on a local farm where she spends her time caring for and being entertained by 200+ pigs and nearly 100 sheep. Her hobbies outside of the barn include knitting, hiking, solo travel exploration, and creating the perfect picnic.

Meghan Broughton

Biography

Meghan graduated from Champlain in 2017 with a Bachelor of Science in Criminal Justice. Her love of organizing and tending to fine details lends well to managing curriculum and on-campus classroom assignments. If you’re lucky, you will find Meghan spending her free time reading her way through a Sisyphean TBR. If you’re unlucky, she will be explaining, in extreme detail, the cultural impact of “Twilight.”

Carolyn Brown

Biography

Carolyn was originally a teacher of visual arts, whose journey into instructional design began many years ago while creating experiences to make asynchronous learning more effective and enjoyable for online students. Degrees in design and education technology are foundational to Carolyn’s work, and innovation is the fuel that moves them forward.

Juliana Burch

Biography

Juliana Burch currently works as an Area Coordinator in House and Residential Life, where they work with first-year and upper-year students, as well as overseeing the upper-year gender inclusive community. They enjoy supporting students in every aspect of their college experience and can been seen working with their resident advisors (RAs), meeting with students to discuss their needs, working with the Women’s and Gender Center, overseeing the physical condition of the residence halls in their area, teaching Champ101 Courses (a class that introduces students to college and helps them learn to navigate a new environment), collaborating with campus partners, and more!

Juliana grew up near Bar Harbor, Maine and graduated from the University of Maine at Farmington in 2019 with a degree in English Literature and a minor in International & Global Studies. After working as a Resident Advisor throughout their undergraduate experience, Juliana decided to continue working in Student Affairs after graduating. They then accepted a Community Coordinator position with Denison University in central Ohio.

During their time in Ohio, Juliana learned that they loved supporting students in navigating their college experience. While working with students of all grades, Juliana most enjoyed working with first-year students, and found joy in helping these students adjust to college life while finding their authentic selves. Finding that they missed the Northern Woods, they moved back to Maine in 2021, and then took a job with Champlain College.

Juliana loves the beauty of the Green Mountain State, the kindness of their colleagues at Champlain, and the indescribable passion of Champlain students! Juliana is continuing their educational journey and is pursuing a graduate degree in English Literature at the University of Vermont.

I love exploring the different mountains and waterways of Vermont! My favorite local eateries are Mr. Mike’s Pizza, Goku Ramen, and Four Quarters Brewing!
