The acceptance of transfer credits is at the sole discretion of Champlain College. Judgment of program similarity is determined in the Registrar’s Office based on criteria provided by the appropriate academic division at Champlain College, and judgments are made at the College’s discretion. Credit hours for transferred courses are given full value, but grades are not transferred to a student’s permanent Champlain College record and do not become part of a student’s cumulative grade point average at Champlain College.
Transfer from CCV
Our partnership with the Community College of Vermont (CCV) makes transferring as a traditional undergraduate student seamless.
Vermont Transfer Guarantee
Champlain College and CCV are a part of the Vermont Transfer Guarantee Agreement. Students graduating from CCV in specific degree programs are guaranteed admission to corresponding bachelor’s degree programs at Champlain College.
CCV students applying to transfer to Champlain College may benefit from this agreement if they:
- Complete a qualifying associate degree at CCV having earned a minimum of 60 credits.
- Earn a minimum GPA of 2.0.
CCV students who meet these requirements will need to apply to transfer to Champlain College’s on-campus programs. Those interested in learning more should speak with our admission team.
NOTE: Champlain College Online is also a signatory and takes part in the Vermont Transfer Guarantee program. Learn more about transferring to the Champlain College Online program.
How does the transfer process from CCV to Champlain work?
The transfer guarantee agreement makes it easy for you to continue your associate degree studies and puts you on track to complete your bachelor’s degree. Some programs may have additional admittance requirements.
Champlain programs that are included in this guarantee are:
- Business
- Computer Science and Innovation
- Graphic Design & Visual Communication*
- Psychology
- Criminology & Criminal Justice
*Those who are interested in studying Graphic Design & Visual Communication will also submit a portfolio with your application.
Transfer Credits
Your CCV 33-36 general education credits will be accepted as a block transfer of 33-36 Champlain transfer credits. Additional credits will be applied to your degree program in a 1:1 match for additional credits. You must have earned a grade of “C” or higher in the course for the credits to transfer.
The determination of course similarity is based on criteria provided by the division Dean or designee, and judgments are made at the College’s discretion. Additionally, Champlain may re-evaluate credits that CCV previously accepted as transfer credit from another institution.
Champlain Transfer Credit Policy
-
Credits vs. Grades
Credit hours for transferred courses are given full value; however, your grades are not transferred to your permanent Champlain College record and do not become part of your cumulative grade point average at Champlain. In all cases, a minimum of 45 credits must be completed at Champlain and this must include 15 hours of 300 level or higher courses in the major.
-
Credits for Your Major
Credits from courses at your previous institution that are comparable to required courses in your major at Champlain will be applied toward your professional program requirement.
-
Credits for Your Electives
Transfer credits for courses that don’t fit into requirements for your Champlain major may be possible if they meet a science, math, or elective requirement.
Additional opportunities for earning transfer credit are possible in the form of military credit and credit by exam: Advanced Placement, International Baccalaureate Exam (Higher Level 1B), or CLEP exam.
-
Student Rights and Responsibilities
We’ll provide all the help you need to navigate the transfer process. Each admitted CCV student will be given all of the same rights and privileges offered to existing Champlain College students, including participation in the financial aid programs, student counseling or coaches and advising, and other student services. In return, you must comply with and will be bound by the standards and regulations of Champlain College in effect at the time of your application for admission.
