“Woven Thread is a multimedia dark fantasy novella stemming from the Norns of Norse Mythology. Under this belief, it is said that each creature born into the world is given a thread of destiny that is woven into creation. Limerick, a wendigo-like forest druid, will stop at nothing to harness the powers of these threads. Using dramatizations of my own phobias, Woven Thread spins first-person tales along the many interconnecting lives that are cut short along Limerick’s rise to power. Fear is the easiest manipulator, after all. Compiled in a hand-crafted leather spell book, Limerick’s story, and the story of those unfortunate enough to cross paths with him, continue indefinitely with each new victim’s lifelines added to his collection.”

“Math and art seem to be worlds apart at first, but really, both are just ways of interpreting the universe we live in. As a double major in Creative Media and Applied Mathematics, the intersection of logic and creativity is a very relevant idea to me. With this piece, I am focusing on how math and art can be used in tandem. I was inspired by Sir Roger Penrose, a British mathematician who won a Nobel Prize for his work with black holes, as well as discovered a set of mathematically interesting tiles. Penrose tiles, as they’re known, are aperiodic, meaning that the pattern they form never completely repeats itself.”

“My artwork as a whole often centers around mixed-media, and I hardly ever create something only using one medium, method, or material. I wanted to exemplify that process with this project, highlighting the layers of material and stitching rather than hiding them, because to me the process is just as important as the finished project.” // “This is a project that I have been yearning to execute for years, and it’s exciting to realize that I finally have the skills and opportunity to do so. I put together the little bits and pieces of inspiration and ideas I’ve gathered over the years, drawing heavily from elements of nature, grunge style and art and the DIY scene that embraces traditional and “rough” artwork.”

“Now that I’ve gotten to experiment with and learn about the process and grow my skills, doll making is something I’m excited to continue to pursue in the near future, and I hope to create a group of dolls that share the same stylistic elements that I’ve highlighted in this project.”
