Jonathan Abramson

Biography

Jonathan D. Abramson, D.C.Sc. is an experienced educator who has taught a variety of computer science courses at different universities and colleges. He is currently an Assistant Professor of Computer Science at Brescia University, where he teaches courses such as Office Applications, Programming I and II, Data Structures, System Analysis, Operating Systems, Artificial Intelligence, Networking, and Programming Languages. In addition to teaching, he also advises and mentors students, creates the CS class schedule for the department, and performs assessments for the department. At the University of the Cumberlands, he served as an Associate Professor of Computer and Information Sciences, where he designed and taught courses at the master’s and doctoral levels, served on dissertation committees, and attended doctoral and master’s residencies all over the US. He has also taught courses at Champlain College, Post University, and Northwestern Connecticut Community College. In addition to teaching, he has also managed departments, mentored faculty, and conducted market studies.

Jessica Akey

Biography

Jessica Akey has over 20 years of academic experience, teaching undergraduates in-person and online. She advocates for increasing access to students seeking professional and continuing education. Jessica is a graduate of Communication Studies at James Madison University (BS), University of Illinois (MS), and the University of Buffalo (PhD). Timothy Anderson

Biography

Timothy obtained a Masters in Business Administration from Strayer University and a Bachelors of Information Technology from American Intercontinental University. He has numerous certification in Cloud and Software engineering. He currently works as a Devops Engineer, in the Software Engineering department for a privately own FinTech. Steven Barefoot

Biography

In his current role as the associate director for value-based care programs, Dr. Barefoot (Steve) is responsible for the clinical integrity of value-based care programs and ensuring the validity of clinical performance measures used in those programs. In addition, he has primary responsibility for data analysis that supports the design and implementation of these programs across the United States. This involves managing, merging, and interpreting data from wide-ranging information platforms. The platforms range from data-rich legacy systems to the most current social collaboration platforms.

In the early part of his career, Steve developed his clinical experience delivering patient care in his private practice, as part of an HMO dental clinic, and via a mobile dentistry program serving mostly Medicaid schoolchildren. He also has worked with other volunteers to deliver dental care in rural communities in Honduras.

His interest in technology and analytics lead him along a separate career path where he was a consultant and certified instructor in IBM-Domino technologies. In that role he developed collaborative, company-wide applications to manage workflow processes for a range of Fortune 500 companies and taught advanced courses in systems administration and application development. During this time, he was a National Solutions Director for an international, Chicago-based information technology consulting company with over 2,000 employees. In terms of analytics, Steve has experience modeling market penetration for new communication products in the wireless industry and has utilized unsupervised machine learning to perform cluster analyses to risk stratify patients.

His clinical background combined with has experience in analysis and developing sophisticated business applications provides a broad platform for teaching classes at Champlain College Online.

Mark Bateh

Biography

Mark was born in Jacksonville, Florida and lived the first 18 years of my life here. Upon being graduated from high school, he moved to Gainesville, Florida where the University of Florida is located. There he earned an undergraduate degree in Mathematics and a Master of Statistics degree.

While in graduate school, Mark worked in the Statistical Office of the Pediatric Oncology Group (POG). POG was the basis of a worldwide study encompassing the research of more than 500 hospitals so that they could study the beneficial effects of chemotherapy on pediatric patients.

Following that, Mark worked as an engineering statistician with Pratt & Whitney Aircraft Group. In 1983, Mark returned to the University of Florida as an instructor in statistics and also to pick up on the research at POG. While back in Gainesville, Mark enrolled in several doctoral level statistics classes.

During the period of 1985-1988, Mark worked with Blue Cross Blue Shield of Florida (now Florida Blue) in the Actuarial and Underwriting division and the Utilization and Benefits Management division to evaluate the efficacy of cost containment programs.

During the period 1988-1995, Mark worked for two divisions of AT&T.

During Mark’s employment with BCBSF and AT&T, he taught several math and statistics courses for universities and community colleges in the area. Also, Mark ventured in establishing a consulting practice in statistical research, customer satisfaction measurement, market segmentation studies, advertising effectiveness studies, and quality measurement / improvement programs.

In 1995 Mark became a full-time consultant and continue to live and am based in the Jacksonville, Florida area. For most of the last 25 years, Mark worked in the field of continuing education for professionals. His company was accredited both by the Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education (ACCME) and the American Nurses Credentialing Center (ANCC). Most of his work revolved around the need assessment for continuing education program as well as outcomes measurement for the educational intervention.

Mark is actively engaged in the field of health services research and Type 1 diabetes research.

Cullen Bostock

Biography

Cullen has been with Champlain College since 2014. He currently serves as Data Systems Manager for Champlain College. In this role, Cullen serves as the system administrator for the College’s primary internal reporting tools, Informer by Entrinisk and the Edify data lake. He also works closely with various functional areas to ensure report needs are being met which includes assisting with report and dashboard construction, data management, analysis and visualization. Prior to this role, he served as Quality Assurance Coordinator and Data Analyst at the College, specifically for Champlain College Online. Cullen has B.S. in Marketing from Central Connecticut State University and over 7 years experience utilizing Python and other programming languages to extract, clean, transform, and visualize data to inform decisions and solve problems.

David Boyle

Biography

Born in Philadelphia (Go Eagles!) and raised in Vermont. Joined the Vermont Army National Guard at 18 and which became a career. Deployed twice in support of the Global War on Terrorism with one in Kuwait and one in Afghanistan. Retired from the military after more that 26 years in service (23 of them on Active Duty). Currently assigned as a clinician at the college’s counseling center.

Holds two Masters Degrees, one in Administration and one in Clinical Psychology, both from St. Michael’s College. Worked in the mental health field for over 13 years. First clinical experience in the field was working in a Combat Stress Control Clinic in Afghanistan treating service members with mental health issues. Other relevant clinical experience is in both community mental health (in crisis and drug addiction issues) and in private practice.

Jane Catton Beattie

Biography

As a native of Canada, Ms. Catton moved to Vermont in 1992 and brings over 35 years of health care and administrative experience. She holds a Bachelor of Science in Nursing degree as well as two Master’s degrees; one in Health Care Administration and one in Organizational Leadership. She is a Board Certified Nurse Executive and holds additional certification in Health Care Quality.
Ms. Catton’s previous work experience has included senior leadership positions in health care in both Canada and United States. She has worked in a variety of hospital, academic and community based health care settings, both as a registered nurse in Critical Care and Oncology, and as an administrative leader. She served as Senior Vice President, Chief Operating Officer and Chief Nursing Officer at Northwestern Medical Center in St. Albans Vermont where she held progressive leadership roles over the span of 13 years. Currently she serves as the CEO of Age Well, Vermont’s largest designated Area Agency on Aging.
Ms. Catton has been active in supporting local health care partnerships and organizations, including advancing health reform initiatives through the Accountable Care Organization (ACO) within her local Health Service Area. She is passionate about opportunities to build collaborations that support primary community based care models, through transitions of care and coordination systems, which support our population health goals for our communities.
Ms. Catton lives in St. Albans with her husband and two dogs. She enjoys traveling, cycling the rail trails of Vermont and spending time with their 5 children; 2 who live locally and 3 who live out of state.

Akette Cowart

Biography

Akette Cowart currently serves as the Manager of a Cyber Investigations Program with the federal government where he conducts forensic analysis related to internal investigations. He has spent over 25 years in the Information Technology field with a majority dedicated to Cybersecurity and Digital Forensics. An Air Force veteran, he has also worked with the Army, Navy, and Marine Corps as a Cyber Security and Defense professional. Prior to his current position, he served as a Digital Forensic Examiner for the Naval Criminal Investigative Service (NCIS) and US Customs and Border Protection.

Krista Crawford

Biography

Krista has a professional background that includes over twenty years of human resource and executive management experience in a variety of settings and organizations, including financial services, philanthropic, healthcare, and industrial production. Her professional and academic group presentations have taken her to many points around the globe and include topics such as moral ethics, positive organizational development, telemedicine, physician leadership, international recruitment, and stress management. Jeevan DSouza

Biography

Dr. Jeevan D’Souza has been an adjunct professor of computer science and mathematics at Champlain College Online since 2017. Prior to joining CCO he has worked as an academic, IT manager, computer programmer, and electronics engineer.

He earned a bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering (EE) from Shivaji University, India, in 2000, a master’s in EE from the University of Texas in 2003, a graduate certificate in computer engineering at Polytechnic Institute of NYU in 2005 and a PhD in computer science from Nova Southeastern University in 2012.

His teaching interests are in the fields of digital circuit design, computer programming, robotics, and embedded systems. He currently lives in Miami and is enjoying the sunshine.

Allison Dean

Biography

Allison has always loved science and began working in the field as a lab technician at the Vermont Cancer Center, shortly after her graduation from UVM. One of the things she loved about her position was the opportunity to work with students, which encouraged her to begin teaching. Since her teaching career began, Allison has been teaching a variety of science courses, including Human Anatomy and Physiology, Nutrition, and Intro to Forensic Science. What Allison most loves about teaching is the challenge to meet the needs of all students in an environment that is constantly changing. Allison is passionate about creating learning environments that support student learning, are inclusive and engaging, are safe learning spaces where students can feel comfortable asking questions and that help students to push past barrier and their fear of science courses. Tamie-Jo Dickinson

Biography

Tamie-Jo Dickinson is a National Board Certified Business Teacher and teaches business and entrepreneur classes at CVU High School, Champlain, CCV, VTC, Castleton, and through the Governor’s Institute of Vermont. She has decades of teaching under her belt and is skilled at making complex topics seem easy and attainable. Her passion is teaching entrepreneurship and business social responsibility. She provides training opportunities for teachers around the state on how to implement entrepreneurship into their curriculum, and her students have been winners of many state-wide business plan competitions. She teaches Managerial Accounting at Champlain, and she works as an educational consultant for the Vermont Small Business Development Center.

Hobbies and Interests: Tamie is a certified Jazzercise Instructor, which means she is actually a franchise owner! She teaches adult classes twice a week, and she teaches programs for young children during the summer.

Damian Dunbar

Biography

Dr. Dunbar thoroughly enjoys bringing his leadership expertise into the educational environment to share his experiences and bring coursework alive. He is highly experienced in employee development and training, human resources, financial analysis, budget operations, personnel development, and leadership management. He served in the United States Army as an analyst for the United States Government. While on active duty, he served as an instructor, writer, developer, and program evaluator at the United States Army Finance School located at Fort Jackson, SC. Patrick Eller

Biography

Patrick is currently the CEO of Metadata Forensics, LLC. He is also a Disabled Veteran who spent 20 years in the United States Army where he served as a Special Agent for the US Army Criminal Investigation Command. During his time at CID Patrick served as the Command Digital Forensic Examiner in charge of a global digital forensic program focused on felony level investigation which involved digital evidence. Jennifer Ferrara

Biography

Gin considers herself a “multimediator” — a person who helps folks use media to tell their own stories and connect to their communities. Jonathan Fowler

Biography

He has been in the data/analytics field since 2007. His background in the humanities gives him a unique perspective on data analytics as narrative, and experience in education as a teacher and counselor help bring a nurturing mindset to the business.

He has served as sole or lead analytics developer in the fields of consumer product goods, manufacturing, banking, law, human resources, and IT managed services. He has worked at both the team lead and individual contributor role in data engineering, data integration, predictive analytics, and data visualization. He has acted as an outsourced Chief Data Officer for implementing company data strategies.

Always an educator, Dr. Fowler has taught at the graduate level for analytics and data science, and has published multiple papers in the field. Dr. Fowler holds a D.C.Sc. in Big Data Analytics from Colorado Technical University, M.Ed., and B.A. in English from Clemson University. Stephan Giles

Biography

Steve Giles is an Adjunct Professor at Champlain College where he has been a faculty member since 2015.

Steve completed his Master’s in computer science from Colorado Technical University and has Bachelor’s in Computer Science from the University of Colorado.

His expertise lies in applying emerging technologies and computer science to extend and improve the quality of life for individuals. Steve spent twenty-five years developing software to aid in the diagnosis and treatment of cancer, with a specialization in breast cancer. He is a lifelong athlete having completed ten Ironman Triathlons and numerous ultra marathons.
He believes through hard work and dedication we can accomplish anything.

Neil Groberg

Biography

Neil Groberg has transformed his legal career and now dedicates himself exclusively to teaching, mediation, arbitration, training, and facilitation throughout the Northeast.

Neil has been teaching at Champlain since 2016. He teaches Health Care Law and the Senior Capstone to students seeking the B.S. in Health Care Administration with Champlain College Online. He has also taught the CCO Masters Health Care law course and Employment Law for Champlain’s traditional residential students. He has also successfully mentored students to finish in first or second place in Champlain’s renowned Elevator Speech contest.

His law firm, Neil Groberg Attorney at Law LLC, was established in 1998. He has over thirty years’ experience as an employment and benefits attorney in for-profit, government, and non-profit institutional settings. He moved to Burlington Vermont from Connecticut in 2008 and is admitted to practice law in Connecticut, New York, and Vermont.

Invaluable to his teaching , Attorney Groberg’s experience also includes a broad range of legal issues including employment, health care, general corporate, commercial real estate, computer, contracts, employee benefits, insurance, real estate and tax law. This array of experience allows a special sensitivity to the impact of the law on overall business decisions and results.

Neil received a B.S. in Economics from the Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania and a J.D. from Hofstra University School of Law. In addition, Attorney Groberg also has taken three separate leadership skills programs and intensive mediation and arbitration courses. He has completed all six separate Improvisation intensive 6-week courses available, a MOTH Story telling program and belongs to an independent improv group, thus improving his creativity, listening, and communication skills, as well as sharpening his wit.

Don Haggerty

Biography

Don is a Professor of Strategy, Innovation and Business Capstone Experiences at Champlain College Online (CCO). In addition to his teaching duties, where he is CCO’s Senior Faculty Lead for both faculty development and experiential learning. He holds three graduate degrees from the University of Vermont; a Master of Arts in Teaching (Secondary Education), an MBA (Quantitative Decision-Making), and an Ed.D. (Reflective Learning in Action Learning Teams). His interest is in reflective learning’s role in decision making, innovation and professional development and its integration with strength-based approaches to innovation, such as Appreciative Inquiry. In 2021 Don published “Doing by Learning: The business capstone experience of a real-world work-based project” which is used currently as the textbook for business and leadership capstone courses at the undergraduate and graduate levels both on-campus and at CCO.

Don brings decades of leadership in both education and business. Previous to joining Champlain College in 2000, he had owned, co-owned or assumed a leadership role with multiple small businesses including residential design/building, hospital systems software, organizational development, strategic marketing research, electric and gas industries and renewable energy. In a corporate setting he led in the design and deployment of many of Vermont’s first successful large scale, nationally recognized residential energy efficiency programs and led in the development of multiple “intrapreneurship” businesses including standby power generation, fiber optic communication systems and propane gas retailing.

In education, Don’s journey began in public education by working with middle/high school students while coaching cross-country ski racing and distance running. He joined Champlain after ten years of serving as an adjunct instructor and visiting lecturer at Trinity College and the University of Vermont in the areas of Finance, Managerial Economics, Marketing Research, Marketing, Organizational Behavior, Organizational Development and Computer Applications. At Champlain, Don has designed, built and taught numerous undergraduate and graduate programs including Business, Management, e-Business, Masters in Managing Innovation and Information Technology and the Masters in Business Administration. As Champlain’s first Associate Provost of Graduate Studies, he oversaw the design, launching and successful management of the college’s portfolio of ten graduate programs built around his self-designed and proprietary pedagogy called Integrated Reflective Practice. He currently teaches Business Strategy, Innovation in Organizations, Organizational Behavior, Leadership along with all capstone projects for both undergraduate Business Administration majors and Champlain’s MBA Program that he founded.

Don’s previous role in the David L. Cooperrider Center for Appreciative Inquiry represented an exciting intersection of his interests in education, organizational development and reflective, work-based learning. As the center’s first Director of Business Development he had the opportunity to work with multiple stakeholders and clients to design programs that accelerate organizational success through the use of Appreciative Inquiry. His Organizational Development certifications include Myers-Briggs Personality Indicator, Lominger Leadership Competencies, the Emotional Social Competencies Inventory (ESCI), Prosci Change Management, Stategyzer’s Business Model Canvas/Customer Value Proposition and, of course, Appreciative Inquiry.

Don’s outside interests include reading, nature photography, canoeing with his wife, kayaking and spending time with his children and five grandchildren. While “retired” from serious competition, he was formerly a dedicated triathlete and cross-country ski racer who still engages in citizens’ flat water canoe and cross country ski racing with an emphasis on fun participation. In the spring of 2018 Don was on sabbatical during which he wrote a book that is a student guide to researching and writing Project-Based/Experiential Business Capstones. The book was published in 2021 and is used currently by both undergraduate and MBA, Leadership and Organizational Development capstone students at Champlain. While writing this book, the sabbatical time was spent in Florida where he and his wife added approximately thirty rivers and wildlife refuges to their portfolio of paddling sites that they have explored in the state.

Charles Kelliher

Biography

Charles is an IT specialist with experience ranging from Cybersecurity, Online Instructor, Project Management, IT Auditing, Business Process Improvement, Service Management, System Administration, Systems Analyst, and Programming. Richard Kelly

Biography

Rich Kelly is an adjunct faculty member at Champlain College. He has taught courses in Criminal Law, Intro to Forensics, Criminal Procedures and Criminal Investigations, both in the traditional classroom and online at Champlain dating back to 2004.

He is a retired Detective / Lieutenant from the Burlington, Vermont Police Department where he worked for 21 years. Upon retiring from Burlington Police, he spent 9 years as the Director of Campus Public Safety at Champlain College. He spent 4 years as an Assistant Medical Examiner for the State of Vermont where he conducted death investigations.

He worked as an adjunct faculty member at the University of Vermont where he taught students studying to become emergency medical technicians. He left Vermont to work as a Forensic Supervisor for the Palm Beach County Medical Examiner’s Office in West Palm Beach, Florida where he managed and supervised a team of skilled death investigators with complex investigations. He worked as a School Police Officer in Palm Beach County, Florida and is currently employed by the Palm Beach County School District as the Lead Instructor for the Jupiter High School Criminal Justice Academy in Jupiter, Florida.

He holds two Associates Degrees, a Bachelor’s Degree and a Master’s from Champlain College. He is a graduate of the FBI National Academy.

He currently resides in Jupiter, Florida with his wife, Colleen.

Marcelle Langan

Biography

Marcelle Langan is an award-winning marketing writer, author, and mom. She is the Director of Institutional Marketing & Web Services at Champlain College and an Adjunct Professor for Champlain College Online. She has been at Champlain College since 2008 and previously held the titles of Director of Web Services; Director of Creative Services: Undergraduate Brand Manager, among others.

Prior to joining the marketing team at Champlain College, Marcelle founded and ran WordBroker Communications, LLC, a consulting firm specializing in marketing and advertising—primarily for startup operations. In addition to running WordBroker Communications, Marcelle held the position of Vice President of Content/Editorial Director of Tavolo, Inc.—a dot.com that was once the largest branded specialty retailer of premium foods and kitchenware on the Internet—where she was responsible for producing the site’s deep content components. 

Before being swept up by the dot.com frenzy, Marcelle held the position of Editor-in-Chief of Eating Well magazine. Eating Well was a consumer health title with a circulation of 650,000 gourmet-cooking fans. She also helped launch and was Managing Editor of Food Arts, at one time, the premier trade magazine to America’s finest restaurants and hotels. 

Marcelle lives in Burlington, Vermont. Her three grown children are awesome, and her dog, Hiccup—a Pembroke Corgi—keeps her vastly entertained.

Marcelle’s first book, The Big Sister’s Guide to the World of Work, was published by Simon and Schuster in January 2006. She has ghostwritten eight cookbooks, two for Royal Caribbean cruise line, five for Holland America Line, and one for Carnival Cruises. She also ghost wrote a biography of Dolly Farnsworth, one of the original homesteaders in Alaska. The book is called Immigrant’s Daughter: The Extraordinary Life of Alaskan Pioneer Dolly Farnsworth.

Alan Larson

Biography

Alan Larson has worked in Information Technology for the past 30 years; he opened his own IT firm in 2001. He graduated from Seminole State College in 1999 with a degree in Networking Engineering Technology. Then continued to Champlain College to complete his bachelor’s in cybersecurity and then his master’s in information security management. Mr. Larson has Professional certifications from Microsoft, Novell, CompTIA, EC Council, and ISC2. He was chairman of the Mid Florida Tech Computer Systems Technology Advisory Committee, the Seminole Advisory Board Council, and an Orlando Chamber of Commerce Ambassador. Mr. Larson now works with The Department of Veterans Affairs, managing vulnerabilities.

John Lavallee

Biography

Began working at Champlain as a software developer in June 1970. Moved on to Director of the Computer Center. Later promoted to Director of IT. Began teaching for Champlain around 1973, and later became the Division Chair of the Information Systems division. Simultaneously, Selected to head up the Champlain Online program. Retired from Champlain in 2015 and has continued to serve as an adjunct instructor ever since.

Amy Letinsky

Biography

Amy has lived in the Pacific Northwest for most of her life, growing up near the Canadian border in Washington State, in a small farming community. Her love of teaching college classes developed when she taught Journalism and ESL courses at her local community college. She moved to Vermont and taught writing at UVM, and she’s been an instructor at Champlain College since 2005. In 2006, she returned to the Northwest with her husband for his work as a family practice doctor in the Seattle area. She have two daughters, with whom she’s thrilled to be sharing the love of reading and writing.

She enjoys writing for many different circumstances. She’s done a lot of writing for the web (especially blogs), newspaper and magazine articles, and research based essays. Personal essays are her favorite form of writing, but she also writes some short stories, is working on a few non-fiction book projects, and she’s written a couple of novels, including one she wrote several years back for NaNoWriMo (The National Novel Writing Month).

I’m passionate about reading and count among my favorite authors John Milton, Jane Austen, and Neil Gaiman.

When I’m not reading a good book or writing my humble attempt at one, I’m volunteering as an art teacher at a local elementary school, painting with watercolors in my sketchbook somewhere out in nature, tent camping in the woods, running for fun and competition, swimming with my family, fishing for salmon on one of the many majestic Northwest rivers, or kayaking on one of our local lakes with the kids.

Michael Levy

Biography

Michael Levy lives and works in Brooklyn, NY. He uses a holistic approach during the Web creation process. Consideration is given to accessibility, search engine optimization, and usability throughout the course of Web site construction. He works with non-profit and corporate clients from around the country, helping them achieve their strategic needs.

He programs backend applications using PHP with MYSQL databases, focusing on reusable, bug-free code. Emphasis is placed on efficient administration that is easy to use.

For front-side design, he is proficient with HTML and CSS, as well as interactive development with Javascript and React. All front-side coding is done with semantic markup that is optimized for search engine visibility and accessibility to handicapped users.

As a fine artist, he has shown in venues in New York, Boston, Providence, and Vermont. Working in photography, and mixed media his work explores formal harmonies using traditional and non-traditional techniques.

Charles Lloyd

Biography

Dr. Chuck Lloyd serves as the President of White Mountains Community College. Dr. Lloyd has been in this role since 2017 and maintained successive positions in the Community College System of NH (CCSNH) for twenty years. Lloyd’s me within CCSNH has included service in student life, enrollment management, academic administration and instruction, coaching, and leadership research.
Chuck is also a professor for graduate level leadership courses at Champlain College and Granite State College. Lloyd’s volunteer work includes Board roles with the Mount Washington Valley Chamber of Commerce, NH Higher Education Assistance Foundation, Granite United Way, and Governor’s Commission on Alcohol, Tobacco, and Other Drugs.
Originally from Franklin New Hampshire, Chuck graduated from Keene State College with a Bachelor of Science in Physical Education, earned his Master’s Degree in Education and Certificate of Advanced Graduate Studies from Plymouth State University, and his Doctorate is in Higher Education Administration from Northeastern University.

Peter Lotto

Biography

Peter Lotto is an adjunct professor in Champlain College’s CCO in the Master of Business Administration program. He is also an adjunct instructor at Norwich University, Northfield, Vermont in the strategic studies and business departments. He has been an adjunct instructor of management, finance, accounting and international business at Mohawk Valley Community College, Utica, New York, Pikes Peak State College and National American University, Colorado Springs, Colorado. His experience includes course development as well as delivery for both on campus and online teaching.

He has held executive level corporate consulting, general management, chief information officer, supply chain management, business ethics and international positions in such companies as Carrier Air Conditioning, UTC Fire and Security, Danaher Corporation and Infor Systems. Prior to his retirement from United Technologies, he was the Chief Information Officer for the Fire and Security Division in Denver, Colorado, where he also served as the Business Practices Officer with oversight of the group’s ethics practices.

Peter earned an M.S. in Management from the State University of New York at Binghamton, an M.A. in International Relations from Syracuse University and a bachelor’s degree in Religion from Hamilton College. He has served on the board of directors nonprofit organizations, and is actively involved in collegiate scholarship ““ practice tools directed toward the creation, revision and application of business knowledge.

He currently lives in Fayetteville, NY and is a married father of three and grandfather of five. In his spare time he studies the Spanish Civil War, is an avid photographer and a frustrated fly fisherman.

Benjamin Luthy

Sergio Tenreiro de Magalhaes

Biography

Sergio holds a PhD in Information Systems and Technologies in the field of cybersecurity, and his experience includes academia, industry, and public service. Prior to Champlain College, Sergio had managerial responsibilities in several corporations, as well as consulting roles, and served as faculty member in several colleges, including the Catholic University of Portugal, where he coordinated the B.S. in IT and the graduate certificate in Information Security.

His research interests include information security, intelligence, and information warfare. He was a researcher in several projects, including the “Security in the Armed Forces Data Distribution Network,” promoted by the Ministry of Defense of Portugal, and he was an academic member of the NATO Multinational Cyber Defense Education and Training Project.

Sergio is currently a member of the Editorial Committee of the International Journal of Electronic Security and Digital Forensics, participates in the scientific committee of several international conferences, and regularly serves as reviewer for multiple scientific journals. Sergio has published a book on the viability, requirements and implementations of behavioral biometric technologies, authored several book chapters, and published more than 60 papers in security related topics, both in international journals and in peer reviewed conference proceedings, being cited more than 700 times.

When he is not working, Sergio enjoys woodcarving, following the investment markets, reading, and assembling jigsaw puzzles.

Jaime Martin

Biography

Jaime is a Senior Application Analyst for the UVM Health Network, managing human resources related data and multiple workstreams within the Workday had to put database. Prior to her work at UVMHN, Jaime managed multiple systems for different institutions, including Portland State University and Champlain College. She also supported the implementation of other systems, particularly as part of Champlain’s collaboration with the Green Mountain Higher Education Consortium (GMHEC). She acted as the Champlain College Technical Lead for the GMHEC Project Ensemble work, and the leader of the GMHEC Reporting & Analytics team, from 2017 to 2019.

Jaime has worked in higher education administration, technology, and support, and also in banking technology, supporting customer facing services and internal applications, software, hardware, and networking. She has a strong desire to find technical solutions for end users, to help make their work run smoothly, solve puzzles that seemed to have no answer, and to constantly grow her knowledge.

Jaime holds a Masters degree in Executive Leadership from Champlain College. She considers herself a lifelong learner, so she has also pursued coursework in other areas, including information security, and diversity and inclusion.

Jason Mcgoff

Biography

When he graduated from high school, he enrolled at SUNY Oswego and received a degree in Computer Science. Once he finished, he worked very briefly and then decided to get a M.S. in Computer Science from Binghamton University. He greatly enjoyed his college experience and would like to help others enjoy it as much as he did. He thinks learning online is a great medium and really enjoy teaching others.

Chris Miller

Biography

Chris started his studies in the Biological Sciences. He earned a B.S. in Biology and an M.S. in Plant Pathology. His research focus was on the impact of air pollution on Forest Trees. He switched career paths and earned an MBA from Boston University with a focus on Accounting and Finance. He worked in public accounting and met the experience requirements and passed the exam to become a CPA. He left public accounting and worked for a number of different firms, primarily with a focus on manufacturing. His longest tenure was with a publicly-traded, high-tech, multinational firm that grew from annual revenues of tens of millions to hundreds of millions while he worked there. He has held the positions of: corporate controller, CFO, and VP of Services during his career. The growth that he dealt with piqued his interest in operations. He earned a Ph.D. in Logistics and Supply Chain Management from the Pennsylvania State University. His research focused supply chain performance and measurement systems. He has taught both undergraduate and graduate courses at a number of universities.

Mike Miller

Biography

His pedagogical objective is to awaken the “sociological imagination” in students, to engage them in observing, analyzing, and thinking critically about conditions of life, work, and relationships.

He is an adjunct professor for Empire State College’s (ESC) On-line Adult Education program. At ESC he teaches a 4-credit Television and Culture class. Class size has ranged from 15 to 25 students. ESC is located in Saratoga Springs, New York, USA

He also teaches online for Champlain College in Burlington, Vermont USA. Before moving to Canada, he taught on campus classes for two years at Champlain College. His current classes with Champlain College are:

James Monroe

Biography

Jim Monroe has taught for over 20 years and been an accountant for over 30 years teaching both online and ground classes. He is married and has a son with autism and that has made him realize that not everyone learns the same way, so that is something he incorporates whenever possible. Janet Morrison

Biography

Janet Morrison has been an adjunct instructor of interpersonal communication for most of her higher ed career, and an academic advisor at Champlain College, in the online division, since 2013. In September 2021, Morrison moved to the role of director for the General Education Program, where she oversees the curriculum and supports a team of instructors.

Her doctorate is in speech communication with a focus on instructional communication. Morrison’s research examined the ways in which teachers and students navigate classroom communication that is emotionally charged in response to an inclusive and diverse curriculum.

Pamela Nash

Biography

Dr. Nash has been teaching at Champlain College Online since 2013, teaching both psychology and communications classes. She has also worked as a therapist/psychologist for 26 years and finds that each of these types of work enhances the other. She is dedicated to both her students and her patients and enjoys the interactions and perspectives from them all.

Tom Nash

Biography

Thomas Nash is a High-Tech Crime Specialist with the National White Collar Crime Center (NW3C) providing high quality, industry leading training and technical assistance for the prevention, investigation, and prosecution of economic and high-tech crimes. Prior to his current position, Thomas served as a full-time certified police officer with the Burlington (Vermont) Police Department holding the rank of Sergeant and assigned to the Chittenden Unit for Special Investigations (SVU) as Director. Additionally, he served as an investigator with the US Department of Justice Internet Crimes against Children Task Force (ICAC) and as a computer forensic examiner with the US Secret Service Electronic Crimes Task Force (USSS-ECTF). Other assignments during his 21-year tenure at the Burlington Police Department (BPD) included the Uniform Services Bureau, Detective Services Bureau, and the BPD Administrative Bureau. Thomas was also on staff at the Vermont Police Academy as an instructor of Criminal Law, Criminal Investigations, and the Investigation of Computer Crimes. Prior to his work at BPD, he worked as a Special Education teacher in Burlington, VT and in Boston, MA. Thomas Nash received a master’s degree in Education from Boston University and an undergraduate degree in Political Science with a minor in Criminal Justice from Villanova University.

Biography

Aimee is a native Vermonter, and career law enforcement officer from 1995-2023. She has specialized in crime scene investigation and death investigation for the last 16 years of her career. She holds her Master of Forensic Science, a Bachelor of Art in Sociology/Criminal Justice and Psychology, as well as an Associate of Science in Business Administration. In retirement, Aimee is a Funeral Director, Advanced-EMT, and Medicolegal Death Investigator. She enjoys being outdoors hiking, camping, gardening, and spending time with family and friends.

Biography

Dr. Abi’s professional background is in Government and Public Administration. His Previous academic experience included: Adjunct Professor @ Liberty University and National University. He is also a senior officer @ Alameda County Public Guardian/Public Administrator/Public Conservator, Oakland, CA. Dr. Abi has occupied many other public service positions in Alameda County government and managerial positions at correctional institutions. His academic interests are in Urban and Regional administration, local government studies, public policy, qualitative research methods, public participation in governance, regulatory governance, intergovernmental relations/fiscal federalism, and ethics.

Douglas Orr

Biography

Douglas A. Orr is a 30-year law enforcement veteran who has served as a commissioned law enforcement officer in South Carolina, Idaho, and Washington. He is a native of Philadelphia, PA. Over the years, Dr. Orr has assumed various roles such as Collision Reconstructionist, Street Crimes, Truancy, Sexual Assault and Polygraph. He recently retired as a Detective in the Major Crimes Unit of the Spokane Police Department (SPD) in Spokane, Washington. During the last ten years of his tenure at SPD, Dr. Orr specialized in digital forensics, cybercrime, child exploitation, and sexual assault. He was also an adjunct professor for Gonzaga University teaching crime scene investigation.

Dr. Orr also holds membership in various organizations to include High Technology Crime Investigation Association (HTCIA), Academy of Criminal Justice Sciences (ACJS), the American Society of Criminologists (ASC), and the Homicide Research Working Group (HRWG). He is certified as an EnCase Certified Examiner (EnCE) computer forensic examiner; a Certified Cellebrite Mobile Examiner (CCME), and CompTIA Security+. He is proficient with SPSS.

Harry Parker

Biography

Dr. Harry Parker holds a PhD in Public Policy and Administration with a concentration in Law and Public Policy, MS in Organizational Leadership, and BS in Counseling. He also retains certificates in Paralegal Studies, Business Law, Advanced Legal Research and Writing, and Strategic Planning and Public Policy to include a Public Leadership Certificate from Harvard Kennedy School’s Executive Education Program.

Dr. Parker possesses 20 years’ experience in the federal business arena holding positions that encompassed Deputy Director, Branch Chief, and Acquisition Coordinator. Dr. Parker’s experience was not limited to the supervision of federal warranted contracting officers that conducted cradle to grave contract administration activities that was national in scope.

Kimberly Polite

Biography

For the last 29 years, Dr. Kimberly Polite has built her career in business and Higher Education Administration as a leader in training and development, management, project management, sales, marketing, and team engagement. She is also a veteran.

Kimberly holds a doctorate in Business Administration from Walden University, a Master of Education in Management as well as a Bachelor of English, both from the University of Arkansas, Fayetteville. She currently teaches and trains in business and educational organizations on strategic change management and employee engagement.

Carla Ponti

Biography

Dr. Ponti has a PhD in music from University of California, San Diego and specializes in American popular music. She is currently adjunct faculty at the Shenandoah Conservatory in Virginia and at National University online. Dr. Ponti is a classically trained soprano who has sung in the choruses of the San Diego Opera and Genesis Opera Company (among others) and has been a soloist and section leader for churches in Southern California.

Raymond Presky

Biography

Ray is originally from London, England, and moved to the USA in 1979. Married since 1982, his wife is from Japan, they have 3 children, all of them have left home years ago, so he is an empty nester with extra time. He enjoys teaching at Champlain and like getting to know the students.

He was a self-employed store owner for 15 years, it was a lot of work, enjoyable but stressful. He considers himself fortunate to have fallen into networking and security engineering around 2000.

He is currently working for a large ISP and has been working in Networking, Security and Communications since 2000. He has worked with Telco, Fiber-Optic and Cable Companies and covered all aspects of networking and security from the user to the internet and lots in between.

Christopher Riddell

Biography

Dr. Christopher Riddell is a twenty-year veteran having served 12 years with the U.S. Coast Guard and eight years with the U.S. Navy. Riddell has approximately 30 years’ combined experience behind the lectern. He has been in higher education for 18 years and served as an instructor at various military commands earning him the title of Master Training Specialist (select) for both services. He earned both his master’s degrees from Utica College in Economic Crime Management and his second in the field of Cyber Policy and Risk Analysis. He earned his doctorate in Law and Policy from Northeastern University. Riddell is also a Certified Fraud Examiner.

Eileen Schiffer

Biography

Eileen Schiffer is an Industrial Organizational Psychologist (PhD) who has been fortunate to have had a wide range of opportunities to support students’ and clients’ in their pursuits of their professional goals. Those experiences have included individual counseling, comprehensive project management, program development and evaluation, and training and support of others who shared a commitment to facilitating academic and professional growth of students and clients.

She began her career consulting for several Fortune 100 companies, creating career resources centers and services, developing leadership succession programs, and counseling and coaching employees at all levels in their career planning processes, including those who were in crisis as a result of organizational reductions in force. Eventually she transitioned into higher education, where she has served as a professor, course designer, program administrator and innovator, and faculty trainer, mentor and coach.

Since her transition to the world of academia, she has been an advocate and driver for high quality online adult education. She has developed processes, guides and tools that facilitated faculty and student transitions during significant change initiatives. She has served as the Curriculum Specialist for School of Business undergraduate and graduate programs, as a contributor to the School of Business Strategic Planning, Curriculum Mapping, and Accreditation processes, and as Faculty Lead for both Development in Excellence Initiatives and for New Faculty Onboarding and Support. In the past few years, as a Higher Education Consultant, she has partnered with Instructional Designers at several Universities in the creation and revision of undergraduate and graduate online courses across multiple disciplines. The focus in each of those roles was on program innovation, quality assurance, and ““ always – on support of faculty and students.

She is a lifelong learner. She has completed graduate hours in education and assessment, curriculum development, instructional design, research methods, and psychometrics, and earned a graduate certificate in Sustainable Food Systems Management. She also participated as a selected member of a year-long Online Teaching Innovations Cohort, focused on assessing and improving online course quality, and served an appointment as a peer reviewer of submissions made to the Scientific & Paper Review Committee of the Global Conference on Business and Economics. She has published articles in Faculty Focus, Techniques: Connecting Education & Careers, and Supervision.

Daniel Selicaro

Biography

Dan has been at Champlain College since 2007, and has been teaching web design and development since 2015. He began his career as a newspaper reporter, and eventually became the news editor for Upside Magazine and the Red Herring magazine in California. After moving back to the East Coast, he worked on digital marketing at Champlain College, and was an important part of two marketing website redevelopments for Champlain.edu. Today he is a faculty member and systems administrator for the Information Systems team at Champlain College. When he’s not at Champlain he runs his own digital marketing and LTI consultancy companies, and is on the board of directors for several local communities, including the Fellowship of the Wheel, and the Green Mountain Montessori School. He is an avid mountain biker, and also on the marketing committees for the Stowe Trails Partnership and for The Velomont Trail Collective.

Anie Sklar

Biography

Anie Sklar has been a Champlain College Online Adjunct Faculty since 2008. Anie’s classrooms emphasize self-reflection and applying topics to real life experiences. Some of Anie’s favorite comments from students are times when students’ real life personal and professional relationships improved because of what they learned in class. And students saying they appreciate Anie’s active engagement in class discussions resulting in them feeling heard, getting valuable feedback and resources, and saying they feel cared about which makes students want to care too. Anie’s teaching is always evolving including finding ways to incorporate appreciative inquiry strategies into her classroom. Increasing student engagement and identifying ways to help students thrive, excel and enable them to flourish.

Holly Steeves

Biography

Holly Steeves worked for more than twenty-six years as a Special Agent with the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) before retiring at the end of 2021. She began her career in the Los Angeles Division working multi-million-dollar financial crimes, before transferring to the Boston Division where she began her journey into the work of cybercriminal activity. Working cybercrime launched her focus into digital forensics and lead to her obtaining FBI Digital Forensic Certification(s) (as well as numerous others) and the title of Special Agent ““ (Digital) Forensic Examiner. She spent the last fifteen years of her career in this role as well as the role of Computer Analysis Response Team (CART) Coordinator, responsible for running a small computer forensic laboratory. She now works as a Digital Forensics Consultant and teaches for a forensic software company.

Biography

Robyn Stratton-Berkessel

Biography

Robyn’s first career was as a Teacher-of-English-as-a-second language (ESL) in the workplace in her homeland Australia. She loved the meaning and purpose of that contribution. She designed many programs under the umbrella of English for Specific Purposes such as English for Engineers, English for Medical Professionals, English for Administrators.

Second career was a move to human and organization development consultant and practitioner offering whole systems design and leadership at all levels. Her portfolio includes a range of frameworks, methods and tools, including Appreciative Inquiry, World Cafe, and Open Space Technology so members of the system can say “we did this ourselves.” Organizations include “Big 4” management consulting, financial and professional services, telecommunications, pharmaceuticals, retail, education, local government agencies and not-for-profits.

Tiffany Taves

Biography

Tiffany has spent 30++ years in the field of education, establishing academic programs, institutional policy, and procedure, designing curriculum, faculty development, and instructing classes. In that time, she has worked to help institutions and organizations understand strategies to continue growth and expansion. She has extensive leadership experience in relationship and team building; hiring professional, sales and technical staff; strategic planning; change management, systems, and policy; implementing budget performance and accountability systems; and creating effective professional development programs.

Tracy Tuten

Biography

Tracy L. Tuten, Ph.D. is an expert in marketing strategy, digital and social media marketing, marketing research, and branding. She is the author of several books including Social Media Marketing and Principles of Marketing for a Digital Age, published by Sage Publications. Her research has appeared in such journals as Psychology & Marketing, the Journal of Business Research, and Social Science Computer Review, among others. Dr. Tuten has served consultant and guest professor roles internationally and in the United States with organizations that include Dell, Samsung Electronics, Royall & Company, the Martin Agency, and the NFL Coaches Association. Timothy Wedge

Biography

Currently an Associate Professor of Practice at Defiance College and adjunct faculty at Champlain College, Tim Wedge has been working in the field of information technology for more than 30 years, and has been in the field of computer forensics / high tech crime for more than 20 years. His non-fiction articles and papers have been published in “The Informant,” “DFI News,” and “The Journal of Digital Forensic Science and Law.” His poems and short stories have been published in “Progeny,” “Nascence: The 2014 Word Branch Publishing Science Fiction Anthology” and “Moments, Moods, and Memories.” He holds a Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science (summa cum laude) and a Master’s in Criminal Justice.

After retiring from the U.S. Navy in 2001, he was a computer crime specialist at the National White Collar Crime Center (NW3C) for more than 8 years, during which he developed and delivered more than a dozen basic, intermediate and advanced courses in computer forensics and online investigation, and taught more than three thousand law enforcement officers. Through NW3C’s partnership with Purdue University, he was also visiting faculty at Purdue University from 2005 to 2009, teaching several computer forensics courses, and collaborating with Purdue faculty on several computer forensic research projects. He also conducted computer forensic examinations for U.S. Military Intelligence, where he encountered instances of human trafficking. This resulted in a profound shift in his career goals to direct his talents to the fight against human trafficking. He has been invited to present on the subject in a variety of forums in such diverse places as Fairmont, West Virginia, and Doha, Qatar. He currently teaches Digital Forensic Science at Defiance College, in Ohio, where he is the program manager for the DCs DFS program, and online courses in Digital Forensic Science for Champlain College, and University of California, Irvine. When not actually teaching, or pursuing research opportunities to develop new methods for detecting and investigating human trafficking cases, he is working on short stories, and his upcoming novel, “Marti Martinez and the Fishbowl Girls.”

Dave White

Biography

Professor White dedicated 30 years to a career in law enforcement (local, state, and federal). He earned a Master’s degree in Behavioral Science (Negotiation, Conflict Management, and Dispute Resolution) from California State University, Dominguez Hills, a Bachelor’s degree (Criminal Justice) from Chapman University, and two Associate’s degrees (Criminal Justice and Business Administration).

During his law enforcement career, Professor White served as a sworn Police Detective (Newport Beach Police Department), District Attorney Investigator (Orange County District Attorney’s Office), and 8.5 years as an Operations Manager and FBI-Certified Digital Forensic Examiner assigned to a highly-specialized FBI Regional Computer Forensics Laboratory (RCFL). During this time, he was afforded the opportunity to manage several teams of computer forensic examiners and administrative staff, who were responsible for conducting comprehensive digital forensic investigations and providing detailed examination results to stakeholders (e.g., Detectives, Investigators, and Special Agents) on cases involving digital forensics, mobile forensics, audio/video forensics, network intrusion, cybercrime, and malware analysis.

Previous to the FBI Task Force assignment, he worked several specialized details to include:

Shawn Willis

Biography

Shawn Rooney Willis lives in Grand Isle, Vermont with her husband, Michael, and two Australian shepherd dogs that keep her actively walking and hiking daily. She has been a Science educator for 30 years, teaching in Vermont and also internationally in Zurich, Switzerland. Shawn has previously worked for Champlain College’s Continuing Professional Studies in the role of Associate Director for TAP (Teacher Apprenticeship Program).

Shawn’s studies in Biology began at the University of Vermont where she earned a Bachelor’s degree. After working in the field of nutritional biochemistry and environmental science, she decided to return to school. She attended Trinity and St. Michael’s College where earned a Master’s degree in Science education.
Shawn began teaching Science 140, “The Biology of Nutrition and Fitness” for CCO in 2022.

Mark Wolzenburg

Biography

Mark Wolzenburg is an E-learning and Curriculum Manager at 4imprint, a promotional products company based in Oshkosh, WI. His main duties include the creation and teaching of online training courses, leadership development, and curriculum development. Mark has been an instructor in the Champlain College online program since 2001, teaching a variety of courses such as Critical Inquiry The Writing Process, Interpersonal Communication, and Modern American Social History. In addition to teaching at Champlain College, Mark also used to teach at Vermont Technical College and the Community College of Vermont before relocating to Wisconsin in 2007.

Mark currently holds a master’s degree in English and History from the University of Wuppertal, Germany. His postgraduate research focuses on urban experience, in particular how literary characters perceive their urban environments.

In his free time, Mark enjoys to spend time with his family, which includes his wife Robin and his children Estelle, Finn, Andrew and Ethan. As an active musician, Mark likes to play guitar as much as possible and has released a variety of albums over the years.

Elaine Young

Biography

As program director, Dr. Young teaches and manages the faculty, curriculum, and assessment for the undergraduate and graduate programs in Marketing, Design and Esports, including ensuring the quality, currency, and relevance of courses, and that students are achieving program learning outcomes. As Curriculum Innovation Faculty Lead, Dr. Young supports the ideation, conceptualization, and implementation of new curriculum offerings that serve the needs of adults continuing their education as well as meeting the needs of employers who are looking to create educational opportunities for their employees.

Prior to her role in Champlain College Online, Dr. Young has been a part of the Champlain College community since 2000. In that time, she has been an integral part of the Stiller School of Business, in multiple roles including Assistant Dean (Jan 2010 – Dec 2011) and Program Director for Marketing and eBusiness Management (Dec 2000 – June 2008). As faculty, Dr. Young specialized in Digital Marketing and developed programs and minors in many Marketing-related areas including launching the B.S. in Marketing back in 2001 and more recently creating minors in Activist Marketing and Digital Marketing. Additionally she helped create the first-of-its-kind program in Management of Creative Media, which has since become a B.S. in Game Production Management. She has developed and taught classes in Activist Marketing, Nonprofit and Social Marketing, Introduction to Digital Marketing, Digital Marketing Analytics, Advanced Digital Marketing, Community Management, and the Marketing Capstone. She is a HubSpot Educator and a Certified Appreciative Advisor.

Dr. Young has a Ph.D. in Organizational Management from Capella University, where her dissertation research examined technology use and adoption of college students, and she has developed a teaching model for faculty to follow when teaching a technology application in a classroom environment. In addition, she holds an M.S. in Internet Strategy Management from Marlboro College, a B.S. in Communication and Public Relations from SUNY Brockport and an A.S. in Communication from Genesee Community College. Dr. Young has over ten years of experience in the Marketing and Public Affairs profession, specializing in nonprofits. She is the author of “Tuned-in Family: How to Cope, Communicate and Connect in a Digital World” (2014).

Julie Zink

Biography

Julie Zink has taught and designed a variety of courses at the college level since 1987. From 1987-2001, Julie taught communication, business, and education courses at various colleges in the South Alabama area before moving to Maine with her family. Since 2001, she has taught courses at the University of Southern Maine, Granite State College, SNHU, St. Joseph’s College of Maine, and New England College. Julie served as the MBA and MSM Program Director in the School of Graduate and Professional Studies from 2014-2017 at New England College.

Julie received a Ph.D. in Instructional Design and Development from the University of South Alabama in 1999. Her dissertation examined instructional design and learning strategies in the public speaking environment.

Julie wrote, developed, and currently teaches the MGMT 541: Group Dynamics and Teams course at Champlain College.
