Juliana Burch

Biography

Juliana Burch grew up near Bar Harbor, Maine and graduated from the University of Maine at Farmington in 2019 with a degree in English Literature and a minor in International & Global Studies. After working as a Resident Advisor throughout their undergraduate experience, Juliana decided to continue working in Student Affairs after graduating. They then accepted a Community Coordinator position with Denison University in central Ohio.

During their time in Ohio, Juliana learned that they loved supporting students in navigating their college experience. While working with students of all grades, Juliana most enjoyed working with first-year students, and found joy in helping these students adjust to college life while finding their authentic selves. Finding that they missed the Northern Woods, Juliana moved back to Maine in 2021 and took a job with Champlain College.

Juliana currently works as an Area Coordinator in the Housing and Residential Life Department, where they primarily work with first-year students and oversee the gender inclusive first-year community. Supporting students in all aspects of their college experience, Juliana can be seen supporting their staff of resident advisors (RAs), meeting with students to discuss their needs, overseeing the physical condition of the residence halls in their area, teaching Champ101 Courses (a class that introduces students to college and helps them learn to navigate a new environment), collaborating with campus partners, and more!

Juliana is continuing their educational journey and is pursuing a graduate degree in English Literature at the University of Vermont.

I love Mr. Mike’s Pizza, Goku Ramen, and Four Quarters Brewing! As for Vermont activities, I love Summer Food Truck Fridays, kayaking, camping, and visiting sugar houses!

Cory Davis

Biography

Dr. Davis has over a decade of professional higher education and student affairs experience working throughout a variety of campuses, campus types, and student bodies. Functional area experiences including community standards, Title IX, bias education and response, student support, residence life, academic advising, student-veterans services, and crisis management. His research focus and professional passions have led him to understand that not all campus environments are created and nurtured equitably. From this, he has adopted an equity-mindedness approach to his work that seeks to reduce educational barriers for all students and to make campuses great places to live, work, and learn.

He received his Doctorate of Education in Higher Education from Plymouth State University in Plymouth, NH; a Master’s of Education in Higher Education & Student Affairs from Salem State University in Salem, MA; and a Bachelor of Arts in History from the University of Maine in Orono, ME.

Michael Fay

Biography

Fay obtained their bachelor’s degree in psychology from Saint Michael’s College and an MFA in Emergent Media from Champlain College where they worked as a project management fellow for two years. While pursuing their education, Fay also worked as a YouTuber, Twitch.tv live streamer, & esports commentator. In January of 2018, Fay moved to Akron in order to design, implement, and manage the new esports program at the University of Akron as well as serve as the head coach of their newly formed varsity teams. Fay also built, opened, and managed the Esports Center at Rutgers University from 2019 until 2021. In 2022, Fay sought to bring their passion for student development to bear for Champlain College and its Esports Living Learning community.

Erin Ferrara

Biography

Erin finds the work she does in supporting students, whether it is through Accessibility Services, Student Support, or as the Title IX Coordinator, as the most important work that she will ever do.

Erin has been working in higher education for over 18 years. She began working towards her career in Accessibility Services when she was in graduate school at the University of Wyoming. Her undergraduate degree in Speech-Language and Hearing Sciences helped spur her toward a Master’s degree in Education, with an emphasis on working with students with disabilities in college.

As a graduate student, she was a Graduate Assistant in the University Disability Support Services (UDSS) office and taught Beginning Sign Language as a GA in the Communication Disorders department.

Erin was lucky enough to be hired to work at UDSS as a Coordinator for the UDSS office at the University of Wyoming. She worked there for five years before moving to Central New York, where she was the Director of the Onondaga School of Therapeutic Massage.

Four years later, her family moved to Klamath Falls, Oregon, where she worked at the Oregon Institute of Technology as the Director of the Student Success Center. While Erin and her family enjoyed living in Oregon, it did not feel like home, so they made their way back to the East Coast to Vermont. Erin has worked at Champlain College since 2019, and she and her family have found their happy place/home in Vermont.

Ian Fournier

Biography

Ian started at Champlain College in July 2017 as an Area Coordinator. In this role, Ian oversaw leadership skill development opportunities on campus through offerings such as Emerging Leaders, Lead like a Beaver, and the National Society of Leadership and Success.

Ian began serving Housing and Residential Life as an Assistant Director in July 2022. In this role, Ian oversees the Resident Advisor program on campus which includes hiring and training RAs for Main Campus and 194 Saint Paul.

Raelyn Gladstone

Biography

Raelyn is passionate about working closely with students to ensure that all their needs are met when they come through the doors of Champlain College. Understanding how students define their own success and providing them with the tools they need to achieve their goals is part of the job she really enjoys. She also works hard to ensure that all students learn what self-advocacy looks like for them. She is a graduate of the University of Vermont with a B.A. in Sociology, and she also pursued a minor in Special Education. Staying in the Burlington, VT area was a no-brainer because of all the opportunities for growth and development, both personally and professionally. Before coming to Champlain College in 2023, she had worked with students of all ages. From preschoolers to college students, her experience working with students is comprehensive. The desire to work with students utilizing the services of the Office of Accessibility came from the knowledge that education is not always accessible to students, and she wants to make that less of a reality for our students.

Christine Koogle

Biography

Christine is from Baltimore, Maryland where she first had her taste of beautiful events. After searching for schools that would provide her with an education that she could take and apply anywhere, she came up north to attend Champlain College. Here, she studied business administration and event management. Christine held many student leadership positions as an RA, Student Activity Programmer, Orientation Leader, CHAMP President, and more. After graduating with her bachelor’s degree, Christine stayed in Vermont to manage a luxury event catering company. After several years, she returned to Champlain and Student Engagement. Now, she gets to run the events she always participated in as a student!
When she’s not having fun with students, you can find her planning weddings for friends and family, kayaking in the beautiful state of Vermont, or trying out a new recipe to share.

Rachel Lavallee

Biography

Rachel grew up in Winooski and current lives less than 5 miles from her childhood home.

She graduated from Champlain College and then was employed at Vermont Student Assistant Corporation for 30 years. She began working at Champlain College Student Affairs in September of 2017.

Lisa Mazzariello

Biography

Get ready to meet the vibrant and dynamic Lisa Mazzariello, who became a proud member of the Champlain Community back in October 2005. With an impressive track record, she currently rocks the role of Assistant Vice President of Student Affairs, Diversity, and Inclusion. Over the course of her career, she also assumed various roles in Student Activities and Residential Life. Her educational background includes a Master’s of Science in Business Administration and Planning from St. Michael’s College, as well as a Bachelor’s of Sciences in Psychology from Castleton State College. Notably, she is an alumna of Champlain College, where she earned her Associate’s Degree in Communications and Public Relations. To this day, her mom still says that “Champlain was the best thing for her daughter, after all it’s where Lisa’s academic and social life began to thrive.” You can still experience this when she gets together with her many alumni friends that she is still in contact with after all these years.

Passionate about student development, Lisa finds great joy in witnessing the transformative “ah-ha” moments in students’ growth. Furthermore, she actively advocates for women’s rights and is an engaged member of the LGBTQ community. Lisa has channeled her passion for education and infused it into her favorite courses to teach; Leadership Seminar, Diversity and Inclusion 101, and Champ 101.

She would also say that she has the honor of working with an amazing team of student affairs professionals. Amongst them they have many different areas of focus. Emily Merrill

Biography

Emily joined the Student Affairs Diversity and Inclusion team in 2021 as a student support case manager. She especially enjoys collaborating with students who are parenting or caregiving while pursuing their higher education goals and marvels at the multi-generational impact that achieving a post-secondary education has on entire families. Emily is a born and raised Vermonter who spent many years living in Europe, Canada, and the southwestern US before returning to Vermont to raise her family. Over the years, Emily has served the Burlington community by supporting youth who are new to learning the English language, working to increase parent engagement within our early childhood systems, and facilitating valuable social connections to increase family resilience. Emily is an avid gardener with a background in organic vegetable and flower farming. When she is not busy helping others, Emily can be found hiking, camping, working in her flower gardens, snowboarding, cross-country skiing, creating costumes for youth theatre, or watching her children’s many extracurricular activities.

Zachary Piper

Biography

Zach started at Champlain in the Fall of 2021. Combining a love for recreation and working with students, he has thoroughly enjoyed his time on campus. Zach is in charge of the Fitness Center located in IDX, and organizes the intramural sport programs among a number of other events throughout each semester. Creating a space in the community for physical well being is motivating, and essential for current Champlain students. Zach’s door is almost always open in the corner of the Fitness Center, come by and say hello!

A native of South Burlington, Vermont, Zach graduated from the University of Massachusetts Amherst in 2018. He moved back home to stay close to family and coach basketball for his former school. In his free time, Zach is usually coaching, on a mountain, or hanging out with his cat.

Anthony Rivers

Biography

Anthony Rivers is a Champlain alum who earned his B.S. in Psychology in 2018. After graduation, he applied his understanding of learning and the brain to teach people about their dogs’ behavior and ways to address it, earning certification in 2020. Anthony returned to the Champlain community in 2022 – first to the Compass Student Services team, before transitioning to his current role in the ODI in August 2022. Anthony was born and raised in the Cayman Islands, but often traveled to visit family in Vermont during the summertime. While his mom’s love for scuba diving is what initially drew her to Cayman Brac, Anthony’s love for hiking and nature has helped make Vermont his second home. Anthony is passionate about mentorship, Caribbean history and culture, his dog Chip (and other dogs), encouraging self-discovery and facilitating identity work. When he isn’t working or taking care of Chip, you may find Anthony playing intramural basketball with the Staff/Faculty & Alumni team, writing, doing some kind of outdoor activity, or enjoying some downtime with a video game.

Kaylee Sullivan

Biography

Kaylee Sullivan is an experienced community-minded storyteller with a passion for sparking community engagement and collaboration. She loves bringing new ideas to life through comprehensive communication campaigns and strategies that span web, social media, print, campus promotion, photography, and other creative avenues. Kaylee works with a variety of offices and departments across campus including Student Affairs, the President’s Office, Marketing, Alumni and Parent Relations, Public Relations, and more to “connect the dots” and ensure content is accurate, visually appealing, and shared with all appropriate audiences and stakeholders.

When she’s not working on the latest exciting Champlain College project, she’s on the soccer field coaching local youth, hiking one of Vermont’s beautiful trails, biking along Lake Champlain, enjoying a game night with friends, or escaping into a good book.

Susan Waryck

Biography

Susan joined the Champlain College team in 2019. She’s worked in higher education and in Student Affairs for her entire 30+ year career. Her experiences range from small, private liberal arts colleges to mid-sized, public universities in the south and mid-west. Susan enjoys serving as the Dean of Students supporting students in their college experience. In her role, Susan supervises the Director of Housing and Residential Life, the Director of Community Standards, and the Director of the Office of International Student Services. Connecting students to these dedicated and committed team members is an important part of Susan’s role. She looks forward to supporting all students as they navigate Champlain College.

Jordan Weeden

Biography

Jordan is a new member to the Housing and Residential Life team at Champlain College. She recently graduated from Colby-Sawyer College where she double majored in a self-designed program called Animal Science and Business, and Studio Art. Working as a Resident Assistant in undergrad got her excited to pursue higher education, which is how Jordan ended up at Champlain.

In addition to being a Resident Assistant, Jordan was also an Admissions Ambassador, Student Photographer, and Teaching Assistant. Getting involved in her campus community was extremely important to her social and professional development. Her success at Colby-Sawyer came from her determination to work with many different departments and gain as much experience as she could. She is hoping to foster that same excitement and drive for her RA staff at Champlain as well.

Here at Champlain, Jordan is the new Area Coordinator, working with upperclass students in apartment style housing. She is excited for this opportunity, as she previously worked with first year students more often than upperclass students. In the AC position, Jordan supervises and supports her RA staff, has meetings with students to discuss any questions or needs they may have, and oversees the building in her area. Jordan is always open to students popping into her office if they have questions when she is available.

Madison West

Biography

Madison (Maddie) joined Champlain College in 2017 as an AmeriCorps VISTA at the Women’s and Gender Center (WGC). There, she discovered a passion for mentoring and supporting college students. Following two years of service at the WGC, she joined the Library as a Circulation Coordinator. In 2021, Maddie transitioned to the Office of Accessibility. As Assistant Director, she strives to provide successful access and services to students with disabilities.

Maddie holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in Gender Studies from Saint Michael’s College and a Master’s in Public Administration from the University of Vermont. During her time at UVM, Maddie served as a Graduate Research Assistant for the Vermont Attorney General’s Office. In her free time, Maddie enjoys biking, fishing, reading, baking, and spending time with friends and family. She lives in St. Albans with her husband and two cats.

Annika HawkinsHilke

Biography

Annika Hawkins-Hilke is the Assistant Vice President of Student Health & Wellbeing. Prior to this position, Annika served as the Medical Director of the Champlain College Student Health Center. Annika is a trained Family Nurse Practitioner and her background includes additional training and years of experience in mental health and psychiatry. Annika is passionate about building community and supporting our students as they explore the relationship between their personal wellbeing, academic success, and life goals. Annika finds joy in exploring the mountains and lakes of Vermont with her family in all seasons, gardening in her backyard, and sourdough bread toasted with butter.

What are your hobbies?

Skiing, camping, boating! Reading, cooking, gardening!

I love to go for runs in the Intervale, swim in Lake Champlain and swimming holes in rivers around the state, and ski our mountains in the winter. Vermont honey crisp apples and maple syrup make my heart sing!
