Jonathan Abramson

Biography

Jonathan D. Abramson, D.C.Sc. is an experienced educator who has taught a variety of computer science courses at different universities and colleges. He is currently an Assistant Professor of Computer Science at Brescia University, where he teaches courses such as Office Applications, Programming I and II, Data Structures, System Analysis, Operating Systems, Artificial Intelligence, Networking, and Programming Languages. In addition to teaching, he also advises and mentors students, creates the CS class schedule for the department, and performs assessments for the department. At the University of the Cumberlands, he served as an Associate Professor of Computer and Information Sciences, where he designed and taught courses at the master’s and doctoral levels, served on dissertation committees, and attended doctoral and master’s residencies all over the US. He has also taught courses at Champlain College, Post University, and Northwestern Connecticut Community College. In addition to teaching, he has also managed departments, mentored faculty, and conducted market studies.

Mark Bateh

Biography

Mark was born in Jacksonville, Florida and lived the first 18 years of my life here. Upon being graduated from high school, he moved to Gainesville, Florida where the University of Florida is located. There he earned an undergraduate degree in Mathematics and a Master of Statistics degree.

While in graduate school, Mark worked in the Statistical Office of the Pediatric Oncology Group (POG). POG was the basis of a worldwide study encompassing the research of more than 500 hospitals so that they could study the beneficial effects of chemotherapy on pediatric patients.

Following that, Mark worked as an engineering statistician with Pratt & Whitney Aircraft Group. In 1983, Mark returned to the University of Florida as an instructor in statistics and also to pick up on the research at POG. While back in Gainesville, Mark enrolled in several doctoral level statistics classes.

During the period of 1985-1988, Mark worked with Blue Cross Blue Shield of Florida (now Florida Blue) in the Actuarial and Underwriting division and the Utilization and Benefits Management division to evaluate the efficacy of cost containment programs.

During the period 1988-1995, Mark worked for two divisions of AT&T.

During Mark’s employment with BCBSF and AT&T, he taught several math and statistics courses for universities and community colleges in the area. Also, Mark ventured in establishing a consulting practice in statistical research, customer satisfaction measurement, market segmentation studies, advertising effectiveness studies, and quality measurement / improvement programs.

In 1995 Mark became a full-time consultant and continue to live and am based in the Jacksonville, Florida area. For most of the last 25 years, Mark worked in the field of continuing education for professionals. His company was accredited both by the Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education (ACCME) and the American Nurses Credentialing Center (ANCC). Most of his work revolved around the need assessment for continuing education program as well as outcomes measurement for the educational intervention.

Cullen Bostock

Biography

Cullen has been with Champlain College since 2014. He currently serves as Data Systems Manager for Champlain College. In this role, Cullen serves as the system administrator for the College’s primary internal reporting tools, Informer by Entrinisk and the Edify data lake. He also works closely with various functional areas to ensure report needs are being met which includes assisting with report and dashboard construction, data management, analysis and visualization. Prior to this role, he served as Quality Assurance Coordinator and Data Analyst at the College, specifically for Champlain College Online. Cullen has B.S. in Marketing from Central Connecticut State University and over 7 years experience utilizing Python and other programming languages to extract, clean, transform, and visualize data to inform decisions and solve problems.

Kimberly Byrd

Biography

Professor Kimberly Byrd is an instructor in the Richard P. Stiller School of Business at Champlain. She was born in the Republic of Panama and lived there until she was 18 years old. Her family owns several businesses including a construction company, a property management company, a personal training company and a landscaping company.

She received her bachelor’s degree in accounting with honors. She then tackled the Certified Public Accountant exam and passed. She worked for several years in the business world and decided to take on the challenge of a master’s degree in accounting. She felt the best option for her to accomplish this goal was online classes due to her workload, family schedule and many responsibilities. She knows personally what a sacrifice it is to make the commitment to attend college while having so many other obligations. She also graduated with honors from her master’s program.

She loves being a student and learning about the ever-changing accounting field. She knows personally how important and reassuring it is to have an instructor who is there for you and wants you to succeed. She has been in the accounting profession for over 28 years and had been teaching accounting online for over 16 years. She has worked in private, public, governmental, and non-profit organizations. She has also worked for several accounting firms.

She says she enjoys Champlain because she has a true passion for teaching and finds it rewarding to interact with students on both a professional and personal level. She says she enjoys having students from all over the country and collaborating with them to make the most out of their learning experience at Champlain.

Jane Catton Beattie

Biography

As a native of Canada, Ms. Catton moved to Vermont in 1992 and brings over 35 years of health care and administrative experience. She holds a Bachelor of Science in Nursing degree as well as two Master’s degrees; one in Health Care Administration and one in Organizational Leadership. She is a Board Certified Nurse Executive and holds additional certification in Health Care Quality.
Ms. Catton’s previous work experience has included senior leadership positions in health care in both Canada and United States. She has worked in a variety of hospital, academic and community based health care settings, both as a registered nurse in Critical Care and Oncology, and as an administrative leader. She served as Senior Vice President, Chief Operating Officer and Chief Nursing Officer at Northwestern Medical Center in St. Albans Vermont where she held progressive leadership roles over the span of 13 years. Currently she serves as the CEO of Age Well, Vermont’s largest designated Area Agency on Aging.
Ms. Catton has been active in supporting local health care partnerships and organizations, including advancing health reform initiatives through the Accountable Care Organization (ACO) within her local Health Service Area. She is passionate about opportunities to build collaborations that support primary community based care models, through transitions of care and coordination systems, which support our population health goals for our communities.
Ms. Catton lives in St. Albans with her husband and two dogs. She enjoys traveling, cycling the rail trails of Vermont and spending time with their 5 children; 2 who live locally and 3 who live out of state.

Jeevan DSouza

Biography

Dr. Jeevan D’Souza has been an adjunct professor of computer science and mathematics at Champlain College Online since 2017. Prior to joining CCO he has worked as an academic, IT manager, computer programmer, and electronics engineer.

He earned a bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering (EE) from Shivaji University, India, in 2000, a master’s in EE from the University of Texas in 2003, a graduate certificate in computer engineering at Polytechnic Institute of NYU in 2005 and a PhD in computer science from Nova Southeastern University in 2012.

His teaching interests are in the fields of digital circuit design, computer programming, robotics, and embedded systems. He currently lives in Miami and is enjoying the sunshine.

Biography

Tamie-Jo Dickinson is a National Board Certified Business Teacher and teaches business and entrepreneur classes at CVU High School, Champlain, CCV, VTC, Castleton, and through the Governor’s Institute of Vermont. She has decades of teaching under her belt and is skilled at making complex topics seem easy and attainable. Her passion is teaching entrepreneurship and business social responsibility. She provides training opportunities for teachers around the state on how to implement entrepreneurship into their curriculum, and her students have been winners of many state-wide business plan competitions. She teaches Managerial Accounting at Champlain, and she works as an educational consultant for the Vermont Small Business Development Center.

Hobbies and Interests: Tamie is a certified Jazzercise Instructor, which means she is actually a franchise owner! She teaches adult classes twice a week, and she teaches programs for young children during the summer.

Damian Dunbar

Biography

Dr. Dunbar thoroughly enjoys bringing his leadership expertise into the educational environment to share his experiences and bring coursework alive. He served in the United States Army as an analyst for the United States Government. While on active duty, he served as an instructor, writer, developer, and program evaluator at the United States Army Finance School located at Fort Jackson, SC. Patrick is currently the CEO of Metadata Forensics, LLC. He is also a Disabled Veteran who spent 20 years in the United States Army where he served as a Special Agent for the US Army Criminal Investigation Command. Biography

Steve Giles is an Adjunct Professor at Champlain College where he has been a faculty member since 2015.

Steve completed his Master’s in computer science from Colorado Technical University and has Bachelor’s in Computer Science from the University of Colorado.

His expertise lies in applying emerging technologies and computer science to extend and improve the quality of life for individuals. Steve spent twenty-five years developing software to aid in the diagnosis and treatment of cancer, with a specialization in breast cancer. He is a lifelong athlete having completed ten Ironman Triathlons and numerous ultra marathons.
He believes through hard work and dedication we can accomplish anything.

Neil Groberg

Biography

Neil Groberg has transformed his legal career and now dedicates himself exclusively to teaching, mediation, arbitration, training, and facilitation throughout the Northeast.

Neil has been teaching at Champlain since 2016. He teaches Health Care Law and the Senior Capstone to students seeking the B.S. in Health Care Administration with Champlain College Online. He has also taught the CCO Masters Health Care law course and Employment Law for Champlain’s traditional residential students. He has also successfully mentored students to finish in first or second place in Champlain’s renowned Elevator Speech contest.

His law firm, Neil Groberg Attorney at Law LLC, was established in 1998. He has over thirty years’ experience as an employment and benefits attorney in for-profit, government, and non-profit institutional settings. He moved to Burlington Vermont from Connecticut in 2008 and is admitted to practice law in Connecticut, New York, and Vermont.

Invaluable to his teaching , Attorney Groberg’s experience also includes a broad range of legal issues including employment, health care, general corporate, commercial real estate, computer, contracts, employee benefits, insurance, real estate and tax law. This array of experience allows a special sensitivity to the impact of the law on overall business decisions and results.

Neil received a B.S. in Economics from the Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania and a J.D. from Hofstra University School of Law. In addition, Attorney Groberg also has taken three separate leadership skills programs and intensive mediation and arbitration courses. He has completed all six separate Improvisation intensive 6-week courses available, a MOTH Story telling program and belongs to an independent improv group, thus improving his creativity, listening, and communication skills, as well as sharpening his wit.

Professor Groberg has also taught online master’s level courses at Quinnipiac University and online undergraduate courses at Goodwin College.

Don Haggerty

Biography

Don is a Professor of Strategy, Innovation and Business Capstone Experiences at Champlain College Online (CCO). In addition to his teaching duties, where he is CCO’s Senior Faculty Lead for both faculty development and experiential learning. He holds three graduate degrees from the University of Vermont; a Master of Arts in Teaching (Secondary Education), an MBA (Quantitative Decision-Making), and an Ed.D. (Reflective Learning in Action Learning Teams). His interest is in reflective learning’s role in decision making, innovation and professional development and its integration with strength-based approaches to innovation, such as Appreciative Inquiry. In 2021 Don published “Doing by Learning: The business capstone experience of a real-world work-based project” which is used currently as the textbook for business and leadership capstone courses at the undergraduate and graduate levels both on-campus and at CCO.

Don brings decades of leadership in both education and business. Previous to joining Champlain College in 2000, he had owned, co-owned or assumed a leadership role with multiple small businesses including residential design/building, hospital systems software, organizational development, strategic marketing research, electric and gas industries and renewable energy. In a corporate setting he led in the design and deployment of many of Vermont’s first successful large scale, nationally recognized residential energy efficiency programs and led in the development of multiple “intrapreneurship” businesses including standby power generation, fiber optic communication systems and propane gas retailing.

In education, Don’s journey began in public education by working with middle/high school students while coaching cross-country ski racing and distance running. He joined Champlain after ten years of serving as an adjunct instructor and visiting lecturer at Trinity College and the University of Vermont in the areas of Finance, Managerial Economics, Marketing Research, Marketing, Organizational Behavior, Organizational Development and Computer Applications. At Champlain, Don has designed, built and taught numerous undergraduate and graduate programs including Business, Management, e-Business, Masters in Managing Innovation and Information Technology and the Masters in Business Administration. As Champlain’s first Associate Provost of Graduate Studies, he oversaw the design, launching and successful management of the college’s portfolio of ten graduate programs built around his self-designed and proprietary pedagogy called Integrated Reflective Practice. He currently teaches Business Strategy, Innovation in Organizations, Organizational Behavior, Leadership along with all capstone projects for both undergraduate Business Administration majors and Champlain’s MBA Program that he founded.

Don’s previous role in the David L. Cooperrider Center for Appreciative Inquiry represented an exciting intersection of his interests in education, organizational development and reflective, work-based learning. As the center’s first Director of Business Development he had the opportunity to work with multiple stakeholders and clients to design programs that accelerate organizational success through the use of Appreciative Inquiry. His Organizational Development certifications include Myers-Briggs Personality Indicator, Lominger Leadership Competencies, the Emotional Social Competencies Inventory (ESCI), Prosci Change Management, Stategyzer’s Business Model Canvas/Customer Value Proposition and, of course, Appreciative Inquiry.

Don’s outside interests include reading, nature photography, canoeing with his wife, kayaking and spending time with his children and five grandchildren. While “retired” from serious competition, he was formerly a dedicated triathlete and cross-country ski racer who still engages in citizens’ flat water canoe and cross country ski racing with an emphasis on fun participation. In the spring of 2018 Don was on sabbatical during which he wrote a book that is a student guide to researching and writing Project-Based/Experiential Business Capstones. The book was published in 2021 and is used currently by both undergraduate and MBA, Leadership and Organizational Development capstone students at Champlain. While writing this book, the sabbatical time was spent in Florida where he and his wife added approximately thirty rivers and wildlife refuges to their portfolio of paddling sites that they have explored in the state.

Marcelle Langan

Biography

Marcelle Langan is an award-winning marketing writer, author, and mom. She is the Director of Institutional Marketing & Web Services at Champlain College and an Adjunct Professor for Champlain College Online. She has been at Champlain College since 2008 and previously held the titles of Director of Web Services; Director of Creative Services: Undergraduate Brand Manager, among others.

Prior to joining the marketing team at Champlain College, Marcelle founded and ran WordBroker Communications, LLC, a consulting firm specializing in marketing and advertising—primarily for startup operations. In addition to running WordBroker Communications, Marcelle held the position of Vice President of Content/Editorial Director of Tavolo, Inc.—a dot.com that was once the largest branded specialty retailer of premium foods and kitchenware on the Internet—where she was responsible for producing the site’s deep content components.

Before being swept up by the dot.com frenzy, Marcelle held the position of Editor-in-Chief of Eating Well magazine. Eating Well was a consumer health title with a circulation of 650,000 gourmet-cooking fans. She also helped launch and was Managing Editor of Food Arts, at one time, the premier trade magazine to America’s finest restaurants and hotels.

Marcelle lives in Burlington, Vermont. Her three grown children are awesome, and her dog, Hiccup—a Pembroke Corgi—keeps her vastly entertained.

Marcelle’s first book, The Big Sister’s Guide to the World of Work, was published by Simon and Schuster in January 2006. She has ghostwritten eight cookbooks, two for Royal Caribbean cruise line, five for Holland America Line, and one for Carnival Cruises. She also ghost wrote a biography of Dolly Farnsworth, one of the original homesteaders in Alaska. The book is called Immigrant’s Daughter: The Extraordinary Life of Alaskan Pioneer Dolly Farnsworth.

Amy Letinsky

Biography

Amy has lived in the Pacific Northwest for most of her life, growing up near the Canadian border in Washington State, in a small farming community. Her love of teaching college classes developed when she taught Journalism and ESL courses at her local community college. She moved to Vermont and taught writing at UVM, and she’s been an instructor at Champlain College since 2005. In 2006, she returned to the Northwest with her husband for his work as a family practice doctor in the Seattle area. She have two daughters, with whom she’s thrilled to be sharing the love of reading and writing.

She enjoys writing for many different circumstances. She’s done a lot of writing for the web (especially blogs), newspaper and magazine articles, and research based essays. Personal essays are her favorite form of writing, but she also writes some short stories, is working on a few non-fiction book projects, and she’s written a couple of novels, including one she wrote several years back for NaNoWriMo (The National Novel Writing Month).

I’m passionate about reading and count among my favorite authors John Milton, Jane Austen, and Neil Gaiman.

When I’m not reading a good book or writing my humble attempt at one, I’m volunteering as an art teacher at a local elementary school, painting with watercolors in my sketchbook somewhere out in nature, tent camping in the woods, running for fun and competition, swimming with my family, fishing for salmon on one of the many majestic Northwest rivers, or kayaking on one of our local lakes with the kids.

Michael Levy

Biography

Michael Levy lives and works in Brooklyn, NY. He uses a holistic approach during the Web creation process. Consideration is given to accessibility, search engine optimization, and usability throughout the course of Web site construction. He works with non-profit and corporate clients from around the country, helping them achieve their strategic needs.

He programs backend applications using PHP with MYSQL databases, focusing on reusable, bug-free code. Emphasis is placed on efficient administration that is easy to use.

For front-side design, he is proficient with HTML and CSS, as well as interactive development with Javascript and React. All front-side coding is done with semantic markup that is optimized for search engine visibility and accessibility to handicapped users.

As a fine artist, he has shown in venues in New York, Boston, Providence, and Vermont. Working in photography, and mixed media his work explores formal harmonies using traditional and non-traditional techniques.

Charles Lloyd

Biography

Dr. Chuck Lloyd serves as the Vice Chancellor of the Community College System of New Hampshire (CCSNH). Dr. Lloyd most recently served as president of White Mountains Community College and maintained successive positions in CCSNH for over twenty years. Lloyd’s time within CCSNH has included service in student life, enrollment management, academic administration and instruction, coaching, and leadership research.

Chuck is also a professor for graduate level leadership courses at Champlain College and New England College. Lloyd’s volunteer work includes Board roles with the Mount Washington Valley Chamber of Commerce, Granite Edvance, Granite United Way, Spaulding Academy and Family Services, and the Governor’s Commission on Alcohol, Tobacco, and Other Drugs.

Peter Lotto

Biography

Peter Lotto is an adjunct professor in Champlain College’s CCO in the Master of Business Administration program. He is also an adjunct instructor at Norwich University, Northfield, Vermont in the strategic studies and business departments. He has been an adjunct instructor of management, finance, accounting and international business at Mohawk Valley Community College, Utica, New York, Pikes Peak State College and National American University, Colorado Springs, Colorado. His experience includes course development as well as delivery for both on campus and online teaching.

He has held executive level corporate consulting, general management, chief information officer, supply chain management, business ethics and international positions in such companies as Carrier Air Conditioning, UTC Fire and Security, Danaher Corporation and Infor Systems. Prior to his retirement from United Technologies, he was the Chief Information Officer for the Fire and Security Division in Denver, Colorado, where he also served as the Business Practices Officer with oversight of the group’s ethics practices.

Peter earned an M.S. in Management from the State University of New York at Binghamton, an M.A. in International Relations from Syracuse University and a bachelor’s degree in Religion from Hamilton College. He has served on the board of directors nonprofit organizations, and is actively involved in collegiate scholarship ““ practice tools directed toward the creation, revision and application of business knowledge.

He currently lives in Fayetteville, NY and is a married father of three and grandfather of five. In his spare time he studies the Spanish Civil War, is an avid photographer and a frustrated fly fisherman.

Biography

Benjamin Luthy is a cybersecurity professional with over 20 years of experience in delivering client-focused technical solutions to safeguard information systems and data in highly regulated environments. He holds multiple industry certifications, including CISSP, CISM, and CDPSE reflecting his commitment to continuous learning and expertise in security and enterprise technologies.

Ben Luthy is the Program Director for the Champlain College Cybersecurity programs as well as an adjunct professor for Information Technology and Cybersecurity.

His research interests include information security, intelligence, and cloud computing and traditional infrastructure. As a recognized speaker at industry conferences such as CMMI Capability Counts, he has shared insights on strengthening cyber compliance and has been actively involved in competitive cybersecurity events, including winning the B-Sides Las Vegas Capture the Flag Competition on the ‘Joes’ team for his work in Windows Operating System Defense.

Sergio Tenreiro de Magalhaes

Biography

Sergio holds a PhD in Information Systems and Technologies in the field of cybersecurity, and his experience includes academia, industry, and public service. Prior to Champlain College, Sergio had managerial responsibilities in several corporations, as well as consulting roles, and served as faculty member in several colleges, including the Catholic University of Portugal, where he coordinated the B.S. in IT and the graduate certificate in Information Security.

His research interests include information security, intelligence, and information warfare. He was a researcher in several projects, including the “Security in the Armed Forces Data Distribution Network,” promoted by the Ministry of Defense of Portugal, and he was an academic member of the NATO Multinational Cyber Defense Education and Training Project.

Sergio is currently a member of the Editorial Committee of the International Journal of Electronic Security and Digital Forensics, participates in the scientific committee of several international conferences, and regularly serves as reviewer for multiple scientific journals. Sergio has published a book on the viability, requirements and implementations of behavioral biometric technologies, authored several book chapters, and published more than 60 papers in security related topics, both in international journals and in peer reviewed conference proceedings, being cited more than 700 times.

When he is not working, Sergio enjoys woodcarving, following the investment markets, reading, and assembling jigsaw puzzles.

Jaime Martin

Biography

Jaime is a Senior Application Analyst for the UVM Health Network, managing human resources related data and multiple workstreams within the Workday had to put database. Prior to her work at UVMHN, Jaime managed multiple systems for different institutions, including Portland State University and Champlain College. She also supported the implementation of other systems, particularly as part of Champlain’s collaboration with the Green Mountain Higher Education Consortium (GMHEC). She acted as the Champlain College Technical Lead for the GMHEC Project Ensemble work, and the leader of the GMHEC Reporting & Analytics team, from 2017 to 2019.

Jaime has worked in higher education administration, technology, and support, and also in banking technology, supporting customer facing services and internal applications, software, hardware, and networking. She has a strong desire to find technical solutions for end users, to help make their work run smoothly, solve puzzles that seemed to have no answer, and to constantly grow her knowledge.

Jaime holds a Masters degree in Executive Leadership from Champlain College. She considers herself a lifelong learner, so she has also pursued coursework in other areas, including information security, and diversity and inclusion.

Mitchell Miller

Biography

Dr. Mitchell Miller, CFP®, is an entrepreneur, educator, author, and practicing Certified Financial Planner®, currently residing in Florida.

In a previous career, he was a corporate executive and senior manager for twenty-plus years with such global, integrated professional service firms such as KPMG LLP, Arthur Andersen LLP, and Lincoln Financial Advisors. Dr. Miller is privileged to have served as a vice president for a private, Miami-based, $150 million financial services organization and for more than 14 years was a regional consultant and manager for a publicly held corporation.

Dr. Miller’s most memorable corporate accomplishment, though, was being recognized by his corporate sponsors on numerous occasions for leadership excellence, and for receiving manager of the year awards for the ability to manage, recruit, hire, train and develop people.

Academically, Dr. Miller earned his Bachelor of Arts degree in Economics from Brooklyn College, Master of Business Administration in Corporate Finance from Pace University’s graduate school of business, and attended the College for Financial Planning, completing the CFP® Professional Education Program. Chris Miller

Biography

Chris started his studies in the Biological Sciences. He earned a B.S. in Biology and an M.S. in Plant Pathology. His research focus was on the impact of air pollution on Forest Trees. He switched career paths and earned an MBA from Boston University with a focus on Accounting and Finance. He worked in public accounting and met the experience requirements and passed the exam to become a CPA. He left public accounting and worked for a number of different firms, primarily with a focus on manufacturing. His longest tenure was with a publicly-traded, high-tech, multinational firm that grew from annual revenues of tens of millions to hundreds of millions while he worked there. He has held the positions of: corporate controller, CFO, and VP of Services during his career. The growth that he dealt with piqued his interest in operations. He earned a Ph.D. in Logistics and Supply Chain Management from the Pennsylvania State University. His research focused supply chain performance and measurement systems. He has taught both undergraduate and graduate courses at a number of universities.
