Blue Stool Talks

Description

The Blue Stool Project is a series of flash lectures given on the Champlain College campus, appearing in the central courtyard with a goal of addressing topics that might not normally come up in the classroom. This engaging, open conversation style of teaching/learning was conceived by Bob Selby and further refined during monthly occurrences.

Blue Stool talks are opportunities for Champlain College faculty and staff to share their passion for learning and ideas with students (and others) outside of the classroom. Students are encouraged to attend. The talks are meant to provoke thought, deepen understanding, and encourage listeners to reconsider ways of knowing. The topics may or may not be controversial in subject matter, but all aim to provide opportunities for listeners to learn.

Champlain College Esports

Description

Champlain Club/College Esports (CCE) is a student run club that looks to provide a space for gaming and esports for all Champlain students who are passionate about gaming culture. We look to push the limits of esports and engage all students in club events that are centered around social interaction, fun, and of course, gaming. Being diverse and inclusive are our objectives as we look to make esports available to everyone and accommodate any game a student(s) want to build a team for. CCE is focused on gaming, esports, and bringing together a community of individuals who are passionate about video games.

Champlain Cybersecurity Club

Description

The Champlain Cybersecurity Club (CCSC) is an academic and social club focused on providing students with the opportunity to explore interesting topics within the realm of cybersecurity. This year, club leadership is focused on academic, personal, and professional development. Meetings are open to all majors, and we encourage students with alternative academic backgrounds to participate!

Champlain Eco-Reps

Description

Take action and become a leader for a better planet!

Eco-Reps are peer educators within college residence halls that model environmentally responsible living behaviors and conduct education and outreach to fellow residents. They are trained and coordinated by the Office of Sustainability on a weekly basis to create monthly themes that provide information and activities focused within the residential areas on campus, and more broadly throughout campus.

Eco-Reps’ goals are to:

• Increase student engagement and community building through peer leadership
• Increase environmental behaviors on campus like waste reduction, energy and water conservation, alternative methods of transportation, and conscious consumption.

Champlain Film Society

Description

Champlain Film Society is a club for all years and all majors to discuss anything and everything film related. We strive to build a community among our members that will support them throughout their time at Champlain. In addition to collaborating, we provide guest speakers, equipment demos, and student screenings for anyone to join.

Champlain Lego Club

Description

The Champlain Lego club strives to bring a safe, welcoming environment to the Champlain College campus by using the wonderful world of Legos. In this club we meet weekly to socialize, relax, talk about Lego news, and of course build Legos! We also will host events for non club members to explore and engage with other creative minds to build legos and connections alike.

Champlain Mathematics Club

Description

The Champlain College Math Club is a space for students to grow and explore their interests in mathematics. Come listen to talks given by students demonstrating the unique ways that math intersects with our lives and individual majors, explore how the artistic process can be combined with mathematical thinking to create unique art, and help the Burlington community by volunteering to tutor younger students.

Champlain Production Club

Description

The Production Club brings together students from several majors to produce a variety of video and audio content. We work on students’ passion projects that may fall outside the curriculum of classes. We also shoot videos for several local businesses to use on their websites and social media.

Chivomengro

Description

Chivomengro aims to publish a monthly zine of personal essays, satire, and cultural commentary. The staff loves to include graphically driven pieces, such as comics or graphic literature, that speak to the college experience.

Chivomengro stays true to its commitment to the writer—contributors have the freedom to submit what they want. The editorial team takes great pride in publishing essays on the human experience, including reviews of pop culture, music, movies, and satire pieces. Chivomengro highly encourages submissions from Champlain College students and remains open for reading on a rolling basis.

D.R.E.A.M

Description

DREAM is a mentorship program that works with youth from low-income households across Vermont, Boston, and Philadelphia. Our mission is to help close the opportunity gap by providing opportunities for local youth to engage in. Members of Champlain’s chapter mentor Vermont youth through social and educational enrichment activities in the greater Burlington area and here on campus. Our programming provides memorable experiences for mentees that broadens their horizons and encourages exploration.

Design Club

Description

The Design Club is a place for students from any major to connect with others who have an interest in graphic design. We’ll engage in group and individual project activities, peer review critiques on personal and academic projects, go on occasional trips to local design companies and art galleries, and invite industry professional guest speakers. The goal is to have fun and explore design outside of the classroom and progress professionally in a supportive environment.

Digital Forensics Association

Description

The Digital Forensics Association (DFA) is a dynamic student organization that meets biweekly. Open to students and faculty from all divisions, DFA offers an engaging platform to explore the intricacies of investigating, analyzing, and recovering digital evidence from electronic devices and digital systems. Students hear from professionals currently working in the field, present on topics they have a passion for, and engage with others during fun interactive events such as hands-on Capture The Flag (CTF) challenges, hardware hacking nights, and pizza and movie nights!

International Business Club

Description

Have a seat and chat for a while! The International Business Club is a round table for open academic discussion about international experiences and events fostering critical thinking and diverse perspectives. We prepare students to look at issues from different angles, both by exploring different cultures, and creating an inclusive space where we respectfully share and discuss diverse opinions. Motion Magic

Description

Motion Magic is a student-run club that aims to create a dedicated and inviting space for animation majors to learn and grow together. Whether you’re a complete beginner or an expert animator, we’re open to students from any background. The Motion Magic club focus on providing a sense of community and support so that you can have your questions answered and complete your assignments. We will also have fun activities, such as movie nights or trips that help us build connections with one another.

Students Demand Action

Description

Students Demand Action is a network within Everytown for Gun Safety that reaches out to passionate students and channels their energy into the fight against gun violence. Our generation has grown up in gun violence that has worsened even through the COVID-19 pandemic. We should not fear for our lives at school, sporting events, or concerts. Gun violence needs to end, which is why we are going to educate and prepare students and registered voters and work together to advocate for safer schools, homes, and cities.

The Crossover

Description

Written by students, for students.

The Crossover is a digital publication serving as the “Intersection of News, Arts, and Culture at Champlain College.” It provides an honest and independent view of Champlain’s campus and culture through an authentic and informative perspective by researching relevant issues and events while following open and transparent reporting practices.

Four main categories allow for a diverse platform of featured stories:

• News pieces include relevant happenings around campus—and sometimes at the national level—that provide critical information to the Champlain community.
• Feature pieces are human-interest stories with in-depth research and careful planning.
• Opinion pieces delve into the unique views of the students writing them.
• Culture pieces showcase the social atmosphere on campus, as well as the city of Burlington, including reviews and advice columns.

The Crossover’s staff is made up of writers, section editors, copy editors, photographers, artists, a social media manager, and an editor-in-chief. If you want to join our team, or contribute a story, email champlaincrossover@gmail.com with your pitch or completed draft for feedback!

The Well

Description

The Well is an evolving, collaborative publication produced by Champlain students enrolled in the Professional Writing Program’s Magazine Publishing course (WRT-215). Topics and themes vary each semester, as students take charge and mold each issue in accordance with their collective priorities and interests.

Students oversee every aspect of The Well, contributing to its written content, design, editing, and marketing. One issue is published each semester the course is offered.

Willard & Maple

Description

Willard & Maple is the oldest running student publication on campus. Champlain’s student-run literary magazine, publishes annual issues that feature visual art, poetry, short fiction, and nonfiction each year. Its mission is to broadcast the diverse and powerful voices in the Champlain community out to the world.

Willard & Maple accepts submissions from the Champlain community. Guidelines for submissions are on its website, as is a link to W&M’s Submittable page. Willard & Maple staff engage in a democratic voting process to determine acceptances.

The Willard & Maple office is not a traditional college-magazine workplace. Students completely take charge of the editorial process, and the review board for submissions is entirely composed of young writers. Nobody’s here to pour coffee and punch copy.

Description

The Champlain College Women in CyberSecurity Club (WiCyS) creates an inclusive space for women to explore and excel in cybersecurity. As part of a national chapter, we offer networking and mentorship opportunities with industry professionals. Our events, such as ‘Ice Cream and Incident Response,’ resume nights, and ‘Troubleshooting Tricks and Treats,’ are both social and technical, providing members with valuable skills and connections. Members also have the opportunity to attend the free annual WiCyS conference, further enhancing their professional development.

Womxn in Technology

Description

The Womxn in Technology Club offers a safe and supportive space for students who are considered minorities in the field of technology. While the club mainly focuses on the experiences of students who are minorities in regard to gender (female-identifying and gender non-conforming), all students are welcome. Diverse experiences and perspectives are what our club is all about! Join us for a mix of community building and technical nights, where we invite guest speakers, talk about different technologies folks are interested in, and do hands-on educational activities and labs.
