Black Student Union

Description

Black Student Union aims to foster a welcoming and supportive environment where students of color can freely share their opinions, ideas, and cultural heritage. It seeks to enhance understanding and appreciation of the histories, cultures, and issues pertinent to students of color through a variety of educational events, cultural celebrations, and open, engaging dialogues. Additionally, it is committed to advocating for and addressing issues that impact these students, striving to create a community that is inclusive and aware of diverse perspectives. Black Student Union wants to build a network between students of color on campus and the community around them through partnering through different BIPOC organizations with movie nights, youth Fridays and more.

Blue Stool Talks

Description

The Blue Stool Project is a series of flash lectures given on the Champlain College campus, appearing in the central courtyard with a goal of addressing topics that might not normally come up in the classroom. This engaging, open conversation style of teaching/learning was conceived by Bob Selby and further refined during monthly occurrences.

Blue Stool talks are opportunities for Champlain College faculty and staff to share their passion for learning and ideas with students (and others) outside of the classroom. Students are encouraged to attend. The talks are meant to provoke thought, deepen understanding, and encourage listeners to reconsider ways of knowing. The topics may or may not be controversial in subject matter, but all aim to provide opportunities for listeners to learn.

CHAMP

Description

CHAMP is a student-run organization that plans and hosts exciting and spirit-filled events on campus each semester. All students are welcome to participate in CHAMP meetings and to volunteer as staff for CHAMP events. As a member of CHAMP, you are an integral part of the planning process–from brainstorming ideas to decorating and event execution. This club serves as a driving force for student involvement and engaging events! Our biggest celebrations of the year include: Spirit Week, the Halloween Dance, Late-Night Breakfast, the Snowball Dance, and Spring Meltdown.

Description

The Champlain College Dance Team is a fun way for students to dance in college without the pressure of tryouts. We work on many fun and unique projects during the year and experiment with different dance styles. Champlain College Esports: Splatoon

Description

CCE Splatoon is a part of the Champlain College Esports club. We compete in CCA (Collegiate Cephalopod Association), the largest collegiate Splatoon league in the US. We also host community outreach events for Splatoon and Non-Splatoon players.

Description

Champlain Crochet is a space for people to de-stress and crochet in an easygoing but invigorating environment. Whether you’re an expert or know nothing about crochet, the club is a space for everyone to learn and support one another.

Bringing your own supplies is not required for participation, but is encouraged. We have yarn, crochet hooks, stitch markers, and yarn needles that club attendees can use.

Champlain Eco-Reps

Description

Take action and become a leader for a better planet!

Eco-Reps are peer educators within college residence halls that model environmentally responsible living behaviors and conduct education and outreach to fellow residents. They are trained and coordinated by the Office of Sustainability on a weekly basis to create monthly themes that provide information and activities focused within the residential areas on campus, and more broadly throughout campus.

Eco-Reps’ goals are to:

• Increase student engagement and community building through peer leadership
• Increase environmental behaviors on campus like waste reduction, energy and water conservation, alternative methods of transportation, and conscious consumption.

Champlain Outdoors

Description

The mission of our club is to foster a community of individuals who are eager to spend their time out in nature. Whether it be hiking across the rolling hills of Vermont’s Green Mountains in a sea of Fall colors, paddling through the lakes, creeks, and rivers of the New York Adirondacks, or gliding across the snow on one of many cross-country skiing trails, we are committed to getting you out there. Our trips vary in difficulty, ranging from casual day hikes simply meant for appreciating the beauty of the woods to strenuous treks that will be a true test of endurance and will. Regardless of whether you consider yourself to be a casual hiker or a rugged adventurer, there is something here for you.

Climb Champlain

Description

Rock Climbing is a great way to de-stress after long days of studying and schoolwork. It’s also a great way to stay fit, meet new people, and exercise problem solving. D.R.E.A.M

Description

DREAM is a mentorship program that works with youth from low-income households across Vermont, Boston, and Philadelphia. Our mission is to help close the opportunity gap by providing opportunities for local youth to engage in. Members of Champlain’s chapter mentor Vermont youth through social and educational enrichment activities in the greater Burlington area and here on campus. Our programming provides memorable experiences for mentees that broadens their horizons and encourages exploration.

Description

Include+ hosts weekly gatherings for LGBTQ+ students and allies to come hang out, and monthly educational events to improve our understanding of LGBTQ+ topics (as well as possibly some additional activities on top of that). This club provides a safe, welcoming space for any student involved in the queer community. We are Champlain College’s Improv Troupe! We hold auditions once per academic year near the start of the fall semester. Our style of improv performance is short-form comedy games. Ski & Ride

Description

Ski and Ride is an inclusive, community-building club for students interested in winter outdoor recreation. Our goal is to form a community in which people can learn to ski and ride in a safe and welcoming environment! Meet friends and form lasting memories with other Champlain students. When the cold months bring snow, the club will transition to in-person, on-hill events, such as community ski days, learn-to-ski events, and our annual Rail Jam.

Stiller Women in Business is a group of students who are committed to giving women and other marginalized communities within the business world a safe space to hang out and talk about classes and other activities on campus. Students Demand Action

Description

Students Demand Action is a network within Everytown for Gun Safety that reaches out to passionate students and channels their energy into the fight against gun violence. Our generation has grown up in gun violence that has worsened even through the COVID-19 pandemic. We should not fear for our lives at school, sporting events, or concerts. Gun violence needs to end, which is why we are going to educate and prepare students and registered voters and work together to advocate for safer schools, homes, and cities.

The Grind

Description

The Grind is an open mic coffee house that provides a safe space for people to express themselves through performance. The audience can relax, meet new people, and spend time with friends. Every Wednesday from 8:30-11:30 PM in Fireside Lounge, there is a player’s sheet; it’s first to sign-up, first to play. We have a sound system and an electric piano for acoustic music. There’s always snacks/coffee available.
