students gather in the commuter lounge

Regardless of where you live, we want you to feel at home at Champlain College.

We’re proud of the excellent quality and variety of our residence halls, but we recognize that living on campus may not be the best fit for everyone. We’re committed to supporting students who currently live off-campus or are considering living off campus.

Always Keep Your Address Current

This enables us to know where our students are living so we can support you if there are neighborhood issues, or if there is a college or regional emergency. Please update your address by sending your current information to compass@champlain.edu.

Your Home, Your Way

Become part of Burlington’s vibrant community. Personalize your living space while immersing yourself in local culture, making connections, and contributing to the colorful diversity of Burlington.

  • Because college students account for nearly a quarter of Burlington’s population, there are plenty of housing options for young adults looking to live independently off campus. As you prepare to live off campus, consider the following:

    • Location: Where you want to live and how you want to live are the most important factors to consider. Think about access to laundry services, groceries, and amenities.
    • Roommates: Depending on your answers to the questions above, you should next consider whether or not a roommate is right for you.
    • Transportation: Consider how long it might take to walk, bike, or bus to and from campus before you settle on a place.

When you’re ready to begin your search, the Office of Housing & Residential Life has resources and listings to help you find your home away from home.

  • If you choose to live off campus, you’ll be considered a “commuter student.” Whether your commute is short or far, we’ve got convenient resources to keep you connected to the campus community.

    • Parking: We offer free parking to all commuter students at specific campus locations
    • Free Shuttle Service: Access the shuttle bus between Lakeside and Main Campus and always know the wait time by using the Shuttle Locator
    • Commuter Lounge: Located on the first floor of the Center for Communication & Creative Media, the Commuter Lounge features lockers for your personal belongings and comfortable spaces for studying, eating, and recharging while you’re on campus.
    • IDK Fireside Lounge: The IDX Fireside Lounge is a great place to connect with friends, group partners or professors.
  • Living off campus is a major step toward independence. We help you to make it a positive and empowering step with these resources:

Chauncey’s Cupboard: Easy access to free foods, hygiene products, and more—right here on campus. Did we mention it’s totally free?

InSight: Balancing a budget, bills, work, and wellbeing is a skill that you learn and practice. Throughout your time at Champlain, the InSight Program will be there to guide you every step of the way.
