Where to Go
Burlington is an active little city, with lots going on year-round. We spend our summers outside on the lake, at music festivals, art studios, and food truck Fridays in the South End. Our winters are for the slopes, snow shoeing, cozy winter markets, and plenty of concerts and shows. We’ve all got favorite places to go for this and that, but here’s what Champlain students recommend.

Ready to visit us in Burlington, Vermont? Before you hit the road, take a moment to consider all your travel options. Our international airport, Amtrak train station, and bus terminal are located right in town. Always consider your carbon footprint.
Must See: Church Street
Burlington’s Church Street Marketplace, named the #3 “Best Public Square in the Nation” by USA Today in 2023, is just a five-minute walk from campus.
Burlington is a magical place. The people are great, the atmosphere of Church Street is always bustling, and everything is close by. I never got homesick because Burlington feels like home. I love it here, and I plan to live here after college.

The Lake
By the lake, you’ll find the waterfront and community park graced with pristine shoreline as far as the eye can see and a magnificent boardwalk, built for strolling, biking, running, even snowshoeing and cross-country skiing in the winter. Find a spot to sit and watch a beautiful sunset over the Adirondack Mountain range.
The Town
To explore downtown, just head down the hill toward the water—it’s just a five-minute walk from campus. The epicenter of Burlington is the legendary Church Street Marketplace. You’ll know you’re there when you hit the cobblestones. Wander around for a while: explore our unique stores, tea and coffee shops, and boutiques. Enjoy street performers, or have a great meal in any one of the restaurants featuring local ingredients and outdoor dining.
The Mountains and Beyond
Just outside of Burlington, you’ll find premier spots like Smuggler’s Notch, Stowe, and Sugarbush are just an hour away (or less!) Enjoy all the Green Mountains have to offer with opportunities to hike, ski and snowboard, swim in clear rivers, and enjoy the natural surroundings. If you’re looking for a different kind of adventure, Montreal, Canada is a two-hour ride away and offers all the amenities of a thriving big city.
