Directing Concentration
The filmmaking industry offers a wide range of exciting career opportunities. If leading a team of creative professionals to create a successful project, pitching your ideas, and making editing decisions that help set the mood and tone excites you, choosing a concentration in directing will help you develop the on-set skills necessary for a successful career.
You’ll dive into exciting topics like experimental film production and the intersection of film and business, and have the opportunity to work with real clients to produce for their needs. In our Directing concentration, you’ll explore directing for different types of projects including narrative, documentary, and experimental, and learn the skills to lead teams and guide a project toward a successful vision. Through courses in this concentration, you can:
- Get hands-on practice working with the essential creative departments that build a film: actors, screenwriters, producers, directors of photography, and editors.
- Learn the inner workings and logistics of filmmaking, from inception to screening in courses that cover topics from multi-camera production to conflict management to production management.
- Put your skills to the test with real clients to create deliverables that meet their needs and showcase your unique perspective, strong communication skills, and comprehensive understanding of directing the production process.
