Accreditation

Champlain College is accredited by the New England Commission of Higher Education.

Accreditation of an institution of higher education by the New England Commission indicates that it meets or exceeds criteria for the assessment of institutional quality periodically applied through a peer review process. An accredited college or university is one which has available the necessary resources to achieve its stated purposes through appropriate educational programs, is substantially doing so, and gives reasonable evidence that it will continue to do so in the foreseeable future. Institutional integrity is also addressed through accreditation.

Accreditation by the New England Commission is not partial but applies to the institution as a whole. As such, it is not a guarantee of every course or program offered, or the competence of individual graduates. Rather, it provides reasonable assurance about the quality of opportunities available to students who attend the institution.

Additional Accreditations by Program

  • Champlain’s Stiller School of Business has long upheld its dedication to providing the most innovative and comprehensive business education possible for our students, and we’re pleased to have our achievements acknowledged by the Accreditation Council for Business Schools and Programs (ACBSP).

The ACBSP focuses on teaching excellence, determining student learning outcomes and a continuous improvement model.

ACBSP’s student-centered teaching and learning approach, which is measured and analyzed for quality, ensures that students gain the right skills from their educational investment. Institutions with programs accredited by ACBSP are committed to continuous improvement that ensures their business programs will give students the business education and skills employers report are needed to be successful.

“We were very impressed with the Stiller School of Business and Champlain College. They have set a high bar, and we are hopeful this accreditation will help them maintain and advance their great work.”

  • Champlain’s Graphic Design & Visual Communication program is accredited by the National Association of Schools of Art and Design (NASAD), the national accrediting agency for institutions teaching art, design, and related disciplines.

NASAD focuses on improving educational practices and maintaining high professional standards in art and design education.

NASAD establishes national standards for undergraduate and graduate degrees and other credentials for art and design and art/design-related disciplines, and provides assistance to institutions and individuals engaged in artistic, scholarly, educational, and other art/design-related endeavors.

Professional Licensures

Traditional Undergraduate Programs

  • Champlain College students who complete the Accounting program may decide to apply for a CPA license. A CPA is a Certified Public Accountant, a designation licensed by each state.

In Vermont, to earn a CPA license, individuals are required to demonstrate their knowledge and competence by passing the Uniform CPA Exam. Students should note that CPAs require more than a Bachelor’s Degree. The requisite credit hours for the CPA exam are 150 post-secondary credits. This means that a typical undergraduate degree (at 120 credits) is not enough, and students need to take more classes-30 credits’ worth-to be eligible for licensure. Champlain’s five-year double major in Finance & Accounting allows students to meet the necessary 150 credit hours needed in order to sit for the CPA exam.

Champlain College has not determined whether the Accounting program meets the education requirements for professional licensure in any state (or the District of Columbia) other than Vermont.

  • All Champlain College teacher education programs are approved by the Vermont Agency of Education (VT AOE). Each concentration in our traditional Education program corresponds to a teaching licensure endorsement.

Champlain College’s Teacher Apprenticeship Program (TAP) is an eight-month, non-degree certificate program that includes coursework and student teaching with a mentor teacher. TAP prepares candidates who already hold a bachelor’s degree to become licensed directly through the Vermont Agency of Education.

Champlain College has not determined whether the Education programs meet the education requirements for professional licensure in any state (or the District of Columbia) other than Vermont. However, Vermont teaching licenses are reciprocal in most states subject to any applicable state requirements. Educators with a Vermont license are eligible to apply for licenses certifications out of state under the National Association of State Directors of Teacher Education and Certifications’ (NASDTEC) Interstate Teacher Mobility Compact.

  • Champlain College’s Social Work program is accredited by the Council on Social Work Education (CSWE), and it therefore meets the requirements for licensure in all fifty states and the District of Columbia.
